Product Information

Invented as both a marketing gimmick and a way to give a more realistic depth of field, 3-D filmmaking has thrilled movie audiences for years. This journey through the history of 3-D includes clips of the earliest attempts at 3-D through to today's IMAX three dimensional extravaganzas. Stuart Pankin and a robot sidekick host this eye-popping tour originally shown in the IMAX format. M.A.X. the Robot is especially excited to show a music video featuring someone who can test the very limits of 3-D, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. After several comedic mishaps, the film delivers this video for a song about a haunted house as a grand final stroke. A special section on the James Cameron theme park ride, TERMINATOR 2 3-D is a highlight. Narrated by Harry Shearer, this feature can be viewed both in 3-D and 2-D.

    Encounter in 3D-but do it on a BIG screen

    I enjoyed this video, the CGI 3d effects are well done & Elvira is always a delight. However this was produced for IMAX viewing & does not translate well to smaller screens. I have a 3D DLP projector (120 hz)in my home theater that produces flicker-free 3d on a 7ft wide screen & it still seemed like much of the action (people especially) looked small & distant. I would recommend this for anyone with a 3D projector or 3DTV at least 60" or better.

    Good, but not the best

    I was a little disappointed with this one, feeling that it wasn't nearly as good as they made it sound. Still, this is a good genuine 3D movie and worth adding to your collection, I just wouldn't put it on the top of the list!

More to explore:
