About this product

Product Information

Albert Brooks is Steven Phillips, a veteran screenwriter of 17 films who is told he has lost his edge. A fellow writer with a string of successes under his belt (Jeff Bridges) refers Phillips to Sarah (Sharon Stone), a professional muse (see Greek mythology). In exchange for the royal treatment and a showering of expensive gifts, she will grace writers with her presence, which seems to magically spark profitable ideas from the client's mind. Is her power real or is it all in her clients' heads? Why does Jack's wife develop a delicious and profitable cookie recipe in Sarah's company? Brooks uses his usual biting wit and thoroughly neurotic sensibility to lampoon the Hollywood lifestyle. As in THE PLAYER, many personalities appear as themselves to take a shot--most especially a hilariously jacked-up Martin Scorsese and a desperate James Cameron. Sharon Stone is unexpectedly funny as the capricious, avaricious muse who turns Phillips's life upside down. Brooks is his usual dry, hilarious self.

    Albert Brooks.. again!

The voice of Albert Brooks rings neurotically true in this charmer with Sharon Stone and Andi McDowell. Cameos by famous show biz folks and inside references make this not exactly a classic, but worth seeing more than one time. The subtle changes in the rating thing above are not great.. yes, yes, yes..

  • Very Funny!!

Brooks not only directs he stars in this 1999 movie and does an outstanding job. He plays screenwriter Steven Phillips, who is told he is out of touch. Not wanting to believe this, he meets with a fellow writer friend who seems to have the golden touch(Jeff Bridges). Bridges puts him in touch with a bona fide Muse(Sharon Stone), one of the nine daughters of the Greek god Zeus, who's earthy task is to inspire creativity. Stone is a capricious woman whose work methods are unconventional.....and she doesn't come cheap! Brooks agrees to her terms, despite his wife Laura's misgivings(Andie MacDowell). As a result she charms her way into their lives. Nothing is the same after that, but she changes Steven and Laura forever with her funny and quirky behavior. Brooks takes some great jabs at ...

  • THE MUSE

I've seen this movie before and it's hard to find in stores. I tried renting on Netflicks and I was surprised they didn't have it. This movie is delightful, fast paced fun, Sharon Stone and all the rest of the cast are great. I love the cameos of Martin Scorcese,James Cameron,Wolfgang Puck. And If you love southern California (I was born and raised) you'll love to see the scenes of some of the nicest locales here, such as Beverly Hills, Long Beach, the movie studios,etc.. Sharon is beautiful in her wardrobe and makeup. When you get to the end of the film, you don't want it to end...and you're finding yourself hoping for the sequel. One of my favorite films!
