Just as much of a classic as Black Christmas
In 1974, "Black Christmas" popularized many troupes that would become synonymous and clichéd through repeated uses in multiple slasher movies. Five years later, "When A Stranger Calls" premiered in theaters. Jill is a babysitter who's watching over a couple's children, only to get menacing phone calls like Jess Bradford and her peers did expect they mainly consist of the question "Have you checked the question?" Now, before you can spell out which plot element from "Black Christmas" this film pays tribute to, Jill and the police managed to arrive to that fact too late. Now, many years later, Jill is all grown up with a husband and a kid but now that psycho who called her all the years ago is calling her again and wants to relive the past with her. To start, Carol Kane is well-known for her comedic roles but here she plays the female heroine in a horror film that's more psychological than slasher. The characters are well fleshed out and attention is paid to the story as well instead of how graphic one's death is and how much blood is being spilled. There's plenty of tension and suspense throughout and the climax doesn't leave you with plenty to desire. In fact, it leaves you with plenty to enjoy. So, do yourself a favor, horror fans, and skip the neutered, watered-down pathetic attempt at a remake and stick with this original thriller instead. You won't be staying up awake asking yourself why certain greedy dumbasses just had to water down the material and try to make it into an easy sell.

Second Remake
You know the plot of the story by the title, however the suspense and drama is what catches you off guard. Acting was good by all characters depicting the typical teenager. Disappointed that it took some time to figure out caller id. Good movie to rent or own for your horror/suspense collection.
