Clint Eastwood teams up with some old friends to make SPACE COWBOYS, a rollicking motion picture that wraps action, comedy, and science fiction into one neat package. Eastwood plays Frank Corvin, a former air force pilot who was shunned from flying into space in 1958 after NASA was created. Forty years later, when a Russian satellite appears to be headed for a collision with Earth, Corvin finally gets his chance. He bribes his archrival Bob Gerson (James Cromwell) into letting his team go into space to repair the satellite, on the condition that they pass the physical. However, passing the physical isn't so easy for aging veterans Jerry O'Neil (Donald Sutherland), Tank Sullivan (James Garner), and Hawk Hawkins (Tommy Lee Jones), who, while still mentally sharp, aren't in the best of physical shape. Nonetheless, they manage to fill all the requirements. Ignoring the two cocky upstarts who have been sent along to back them up, the old-timers blast off and head straight for the satellite. But when they get there, the realization that the satellite is actually carrying six nuclear warheads changes the course of the mission, endangering the lives of the astronauts as well as the citizens of America. With exceptional special effects and a breezy tone, SPACE COWBOYS is one of Eastwood's most entertaining films to date.

Space Cowboys DVD
This was a great movie with a good story, and I really enjoyed it! The picture definition and special effects were also very nice, and crisp for a DVD. It looked great on my 55" TV and the only thing I wish now, is that I would have purchased it in Blu-ray, because it would have been that much better! If you like science fiction/action movies and haven't seen this one yet, then check it out, I think you'll be glad you did.This was a great movie with a good story, and I really enjoyed it! I purchased this Space Cowboys film because I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood. Through the years he has given me really great entertainment. Without his tongue in cheek attitude toward most of the hard stuff in life I would have been armed with much less to deal with life on life’s terms throughout the years. The film itself was good; I wasn’t disappointed I purchased it. (I know the price was right) He paints an interesting feeling. We come into the film knowing someone in charge of corporate leadership has screwed something up big time. As usual Clint must step in & be the hero. The remainder of the film is spent getting old Air Force buddies together to correct something that was screwed up by what I see as; “typical management, corporate, & government greed.” It’s ... If you like drama....
The characters are very engaging as is the movie. Though there is a bit of comic relief throughout the movie, however, the drama is most prevalent. Based on science fiction, an antiquated satellite is failing and needs to be repaired before it crashes to earth. Beings as this satellite is antiquated, only the "retired" men know what to do. These retired men have a history together. Some of it good and some of the history is bad, which only adds to the drama. Tension is always on the rise. This movie is well worth watching, especially with these lead characters.The characters are very engaging as is the movie. Now, all of a sudden their services are needed because of an old Soviet era satellite is falling out of orbit. It seems that the control system installed in that satellite was U.S. technology stolen by spies years ago. This technology was written and developed by one of the astronauts (Clint Eastwood), and this stuff is so antiquated that nobody else knows it, and there isn't time to train anybody else. He agrees to help, but only if all of his former team can go too. By blackmailing the head of the program all of a sudden, not just Eastwood, but, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner are all undergoing astronaut evaluation and training. . . again! This is a ... Entertaining film about four ageing ex-astronauts who missed their opportunity to fly years ago because of politics. They save the day with BS actions and at one point a cheap kitchen timer that is supposed to be some super hand held computer. All pretty unlikely, but entertaining. This movie's best attributes is that it is loaded up with "Has-Been" actors who are still talented, and have easily recognizable names.
