Buyer beware.
First of all let me state I am a long time Steinberger player/fan and I have played Steinbergers professionally for 33 years. I've owned 3 of these Chinese made Steinberger guitars. The quality of various important characteristics of these guitars varies significantly because generally cheap parts are used in the manufacturing of them. Two of mine have developed issues with the tremolo system. When the tremolo system works properly it is great (stays in tune, very good range both up and down, and is smooth) but it is proven to me to not last long. It now rattles and will not stay in tune when I use it, and it feels very stiff. I'm not even doing heavy metal dive bombs ala Van Halen. I'm generally a jazz player and use it for primarily for expressive vibrato. The pick-ups are weak and have ... The toggle switch for the pick-ups is terrible and many times doesn't engage the intended pick up without having to tweak/wiggle it randomly. On the positive side the feel of these guitars is really nice in my opinion and they play real easy. So if you want to replace the tremolo system with a Floyd Rose or a Steinberger TransTrem and replace the entire electronic system, you'll have yourself a very comfortable playing guitar. Otherwise, I would recommend just buying a real American made Steinberger.
