  • Great scanner for anyone with loads of negatives, get one if you can!

I was on the prowl for a negative scanner for about 2 years, my requirements were simple, it needed handle 35mm negatives and slides but also APS (IX240) film cartridges. Unfortunately the only new scanner on the market that handles all 3 formats is from Nikon which is a very expensive option (over $6000). So, eBay came to the rescue and I got this puppy. Reading about the scanner on the Internet indicated that the best option for software was Vuescan, I can confirm that this scanner is fully supported by Vuescan and the combination creates images that are awesome. I am using an old XP box to do my scanning which is more than powerful to handle the scanning, once scanned I am using another computer for archiving and image manipulation. One thing that I read about was the difference ...

  • Good value, high quality scans, but slow.

Having recently been given an as-new high-end film camera, I decided to put my potentially expensive move into the digital SLR arena on hold for a couple more years and instead invest in a film scanner. I opted for a second-hand FS4000 due to the fact that the only brand new alternatives are the very expensive Nikon scanners, or the Plustek OpticFilm range which apparently don't offer a very good contrast ratio or true resolution. I found sample scans from an FS4000 on the web and they were very impressive. So far I am pleased with this scanner, it lives up to the expectations that I had - namely great colour and contrast, a true resolution close to the claimed 4000DPI, and on the negative side, a lack of speed. The speed issue I've no doubt could be improved with a SCSI card in my ...

  • Looking for a 4000 dpi 35mm/APS film scanner - solid value for the $ here

I especially like this scanner for scanning 35mm black and white negatives using VueScan software. It seems to do a fine job with those, and the holder can hold up to 6 frames of 35mm negatives at once. * A second good thing about the Canoscan FS4000US scanner, at least if it includes the slide film holder, is that up to 4 35mm slides can be put in the 35mm slide holder at the same time. While the scanning speed for each one is not quite as fast as some Nikon 4000 dpi scanners, the Nikon scanners I've seen posted on sales sites usually appear to have only the ability to scan a single slide at a time. So, every few minutes the user has to revisit the Nikon competitor machine and insert the next slide. With this Canoscan, there are one-fourth the number of visits by the user ... I can do ...

  • Hidden treasure

Usually when it comes done to film scanner, most of people will say Nikon. I never owned one, may be they are really so good so people makes a gold standard out of them - i do not know. But I saw scans made by them, I own Minolta Dual Scan IV, I tried PrimeFilm 7250Pro3 for few days and finally landed on FS4000US. PrimeFilm isn't a bad scanner - just different league, optically they still to work on it but they ICE3 works fine. Minolta DualScan IV - excellent from optical and color rendering for sub $300 (when I bought it new) - it's enormous bang for back. I am really impressed by it but no defect removal using IR channel. As result if you have a just developed film - you get excellent scans with little cleanup effort. Old slides/negatives - it's other story, expect spend enough time for ...

  • Great buy!

A great buy for my needs! Have a lot of negative film laying around and this machine does the conversion easy. I'm very satisfied. Also, the seller sold it in a pristine condition with every item packed as new.
