  • Does not do justice to the work of the original Playwright Henrik Ibsen

If you are a great fan of Anthony Hopkins, you would want to see this movie rendition - no doubt - I think you should! He is though unconvincing as Torvals as Hopkins is much too nice in his own sensibilities on the matters involved to be as lacking in understanding towards better views as is the character he plays of "Torvald" That said, it is, I suggest, a very rather poor take on the work of the great playwright from Norway Mr. Henrik Ibsen as he was in fact trying to show a mistaken attitude towards the character of "Nora" in his play and this is best shown in the Norwegian movie version (Et Dukkehjem 1973 - english subtitled) or even in the Jane Fonda version we just ordered on ebay from the UK - renamed Nora for some reason -(although to a ...

  • A criminal interaction play turned into a movie

Quite an unusual film! It has a "foreign" atmosphere to it, in large part due to the costumers and prop staff - quite excellent for capturing the times! Clair Bloom gives an extraordinary performance while Anthony Hopkins gives it his typical best. The other actors and extras definately are well-tuned to this script as well. Possibly, it helps that this was an established play prior to conversion to a movie. Note that this is the 2003 issue of an older film in NTSC VHS format. In my opinion, it can be seen by school age children and up but the subject matter is probably best understood by adults. I suggest parents review the film first. A rating of excellent is based on it being almost uncomparable to a similar film. Please note that this review is written without ...

  • I enjoyed the DVD, A Doll's House very much

I purchased the dvd, A Doll's House for school. The movie really went along with the play. The movie made it exciting to have a complete discussion and also a term paper that I needed to write.

  • It wasn't quite was I expected!

I love the actors, but the storyline just didn't go deep enough, I expected more. A. Hopkins is always good, as is the female protagonist, so it wasn't them.

  • A Doll's House

Wonderful product, the most interesting movie, charming. It is as if written today. If you think about it, nothing or little have changed since women became independent. We still depend on men in one way or another. A human being is able to find freedom only within himself.
