The FireBox from PreSonus is a powerful recording interface that combines quality microphone/instrument preamplifiers and a 24-Bit/96kHz sample rate. This deceptively simple piece of hardware, which is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, can produce professional results. The FireBox connects to your computer via a FireWire cable, allowing for faster communication and superior stability and performance. The FireBox's high-quality analog-to-digital converters have an impressive dynamic range of 110dB for a rich, realistic sound. It can record up to six inputs simultaneously, which can be mixed using the Zero-Latency DSP mixer. Listen through the stereo headphone output or connect your monitors to experience clear, high-quality audio playback. The headphone output comes with a two-channel driver stream, which allows you to send different mixes to the headphone and main outputs. This comes in handy when you're recording multiple musicians who need to hear themselves. The two Class-A preamplifiers on the front panel make it easy to connect microphones or instruments. Connect them using a female balanced XLR or TRS 1/4-inch cable. If you use condenser mics or active DI boxes that require an external power source, you're in luck. The PreSonus FireBox includes 48V phantom power. The frequency response of the microphone preamp is 10 Hz to 50 kHz. The FireBox also has two analog line inputs and 6 line outputs. This makes it easy to connect a variety of external devices such as a mixing desk. Using the S/PDIF input and output, you can connect a variety of external audio sources like CD players or MiniDisc decks. When you plug a MIDI controller into the PreSonus FireBox FireWire interface, you can tweak physical knobs to control audio effects. It also allows you to record MIDI data with a keyboard that you can easily edit later in your DAW. The PreSonus FireBox works with Windows XP/7/Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later. You'll also need at least 1GB RAM and a FireWire 400 port for it to work properly. The package comes with Studio One artist software so you can dive into recording as soon as you open the box. This program includes four PreSonus virtual instruments as well as 20 reverbs, amplifier modelers, dynamics processors, and other useful plugins. You can use this to create an incredible track you'll be excited to show off. An additional software package is available that allows you to route and mix your tracks while enjoying a seamless, low-latency experience. Since it's compatible with most software, you can use the program you prefer with this audio recording system. It can be used with Core Audio and ASIO/WDM-based applications including Cubase, Logic Pro, and Garage Band. The included Impact Sample Trigger Drum Instrument can emulate 32 different drum kits. The Toontrack EZdrummer Lite makes it easier than ever to quickly lay down a steady groove. The tunes will work with the style and tempo of your song. The FireBox interface boasts a 1/3 U design for easy rack mounting. This is especially helpful for those concerned about conserving precious studio space and keeping their gear organized. I didn't buy this product cause of a last minute decision on getting the better model; firestudio mobile which has better quality pre amps, better software (Studio One) and also overall perfomance. I love this last model which is same brand Presonus, clear recordings and exceptional product for it's value. Hope my humble personal review help you.

Great Interface for a Very Reasonable Price
This is the second interface I've used in my home studio (and possibly last until HD interfaces come down in price). The first one had all sorts of firmware issues and bugs, and I couldn't switch from an instrument to a mic with phantom power without restarting the whole computer (if then!). Sometimes I'd have to reinstall the drivers and restart again, then fool around some more to finally coax it into submission. It was a real pain, not to mention how much it constricted my creative flow of ideas. So far this interface has been a godsend. I can record up to 6 tracks simultaneously at 24-bit 96 khz quality with no noticeable lag. It has everything I need in an interface as well. Line/ mic inputs, +48v phantom power, midi in, Best of all... IT WORKS!!! I like its compatibility with ... The only thing that could be improved upon it is including front LEDs for input monitoring, although the clipping lights help well enough. Also I will have to do a bit more testing but I have a hunch the preamps may be a bit too bright for my liking. Might need to invest in a good mic preamp to supplicate this unit. This is a great interface for a very reasonable price (picked mine up used for $55).

One Powerful Little Box
I bought the firebox mainly because it's a firewire interface. In the past, I've had latency problems with USB interfaces or there was just always something NOT WORKING with the usb interfaces I was working with, so, I thought I would try a firewire interface out. I didn't need a crazy-awesome interface to record with, just something simple, fast, and compatible: Exactly what the firebox is. I like the firebox's ease of use. Everything is pretty straight forward just plug-in and go for it. What I was really impressed with was that there was hardly any latency issues. What you play on your guitar/bass/instrument or sing is what you hear, so you can actually record with say a sequenced drum track and not have to go back after the fact and make sure everything syncs up. It does what it's supposed to and it does it quite well I think. I honestly don't have that many dislikes for the firebox, at least not at this moment. Maybe it could be a more attractive interface but I'm more worried with recording properties. Another thing, the price. One shouldn't have to spend over $500 just to be able to record a song idea in decent quality. The firebox works great for this. I have an idea, I sit down, maybe lay out a drum track, record the idea and then I can share my idea with musicians across the world. If I really want to make full, sweet sounding song, then that's totally possible with proportionate time and attention (and of course, the firebox). Let it be known that this is one amateur recording artist opinion. My experience with recording music is in no way "professional" but I'd like to believe I know when music sounds good and for the output the firebox brings given it's price, it's just great and I really enjoy having it. It lets me enjoy my love for making music that much more and then some. If you're on a budget and need a quick portable interface that puts out nicely, the firebox may be what you need. If you're wanting a pro recording interface with all the bells and whistles, you might want to look on up the audio interface-ladder. Other things to note: I've used the firebox on 3 different OS's without any trouble: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Windows XP Pro 32-bit. From what I've read, it works on several other OS's also.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase of PreSonus Firebox. I think it can be a good start for those people who want to get into the world of digital recording and don't have enough resources (like I have just 1 GB RAM, Windows XP, and I was able to make recordings without any problems). However, I had to spend some time researching to figure out how to make it work in my software (I use Adobe Audition). But I think it's like with anything else. But once I did, I felt like I would never regret that I had bought it. No noises, zero latency and easy to use. The drive for Windows 7 is also available on PreSonus website, so i don't think there won't any problems using it with a newer OS or with a more powerful software. Highly recommend!
