This computer-animated feature, directed by David Bowers and Sam Fell, explores a whole new world under London. A pet mouse named Roddy St. James (voiced by Hugh Jackman) is pretty much spoiled rotten. His owners live in a chic Kensington apartment, and Roddy has everything he could possibly want--except friends and a family. Everything changes for Roddy when his owners go away for a few days and their flat is invaded by a common rat, Sid (Shane Richie). Determined to reclaim his apartment and boot out the intruder, Roddy tries to talk Sid into enjoying the apartment "Jacuzzi," which is actually the toilet. But Sid is smarter than he looks, and soon Roddy is traveling down the pipes out of his sheltered life into a world that he never knew existed. Emerged in Ratropolis and completely out of his element, Roddy is immediately caught up in an adventure. He meets Rita (Kate Winslet), a street-smart scavenger who travels the sewers by boat looking for riches that will help her care for her parents and multitude of siblings, and hires her to help him get above ground. But the villainous Toad (Ian McKellen) and his rodent henchmen, Spike (Andy Serkis) and Whitey (Bill Nighy), are constant problems. To make matters worse, the Toad is preparing to hatch an evil plot that promises to wipe out all the rats and mice dwelling underground, and he brings in his mercenary Parisian cousin Le Frog (Jean Reno) and his team to help get the job done. This comedy/adventure features first-class animation from the team that created WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT and is voiced by an all-star cast.

Great movie. Glad it arrived quickly.
I started watching this in a medical waiting room. Only got to see the first 15 minutes and decided I just had to watch it all. Then I decided I had to purchase my own copy. I am very picky about the DVD's and blu-ray discs that go into my collection but I didn't hesitate about adding this one. The animation is smooth, the story is good and the characters are so well thought out that you will quickly forget they aren't real people.I started watching this in a medical waiting room. Flushed Away is a charming film that will certainly entertain children and may even produce a few laughs from the adult crowd as well. When Roddy, a civilized uptown rat, is flushed down the toilet, he finds himself in a sewer adventure as he struggles to find his way home. This movie features a colorful cast with some talented voice actors. The film also features some fun and catchy music. The story is a too strong, but the comedy is. A villainous frog (Ian McKellen) is hoping to make a mess of Roddy's life, along with everyone else in the sewer city including a Rat named Rita (Kate Winslet). Rita befriends Roddy and helps him in his quest for the surface which leads to all kinds of trouble, comedy, and narrow escapes. Although my expectations which have been set somewhat low by ... At the risk of going all philosophical, there's something about the unexamined life not being worth living. Roddy St. James is living the high life as the pampered pet mouse of a little girl in the exclusive Kensington district of London. When the family goes away on holiday, he revels in his hedonistic lifestyle - till an intruder arrives and Roddy is literally flushed away into the sewers. This is the kind of set-up used by many romantic comedies, one used to very good effect here. While the animation and characters are aimed at a younger audience, adults will find plenty to enjoy as well. Torn from his accustomed comforts, Roddy finds himself in an underground city that mimics London above. Populated by a lively mix of rodents, singing slugs - and evil amphibians - Roddy begins the ... It doesn't help when they cross paths with the evil Toad, mastermind of a criminal empire, who has an unpleasant history with Rita. The story builds from there, as Roddy begins to realize what has been missing from his life all this time, and Rita begins to appreciate that Roddy isn't as useless as he first seems. Surviving the efforts of the evil Toad to capture them provides much excitement as the two of them are thrown together while Roddy seeks to return to his life and Rita seeks her promised payment for helping him. Meanwhile, England is in the finals of the World Cup Soccer championships, and Toad is awaiting the critical moment to carry out his master plan..... With the vocal talents of Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Ian McKellan, and others, the movie is engaging on many levels for both the young and those somewhat older. The characters are well developed, and fun to watch. There are some amusing pop culture references, elements of cheerful snark, and several charming songs by a surprisingly musical Jackman. The animation is both colorful and well done. It's a small gem of a movie with a number of enjoyable moments such as the scene with the French frog mime, the cell phone and the Evil Toad. It's a movie that should still be enjoyable after repeated viewings - and that's no small thing.

First things first, the kiddos loved this one. Second things second, this review is mainly from an adult's perspective, as I am mainly an adult. Flushed away is a solid children's movie, with plenty of toilet humor and fart jokes to entertain the kids throughout. It is often a bit lowbrow for the adult of at least average intelligence. The vast majority of the humor is - go figure! - sewer related, or dealing with bodily functions children and the developmentally disabled find humorous. Long story short, though at times cute, this might be one to turn on while you're doing the dishes, or working on that crossword puzzle that's been giving you trouble. You won't miss much - the jokes are telegraphed way ahead of time, and even if you miss a plot point or two, the movie is just as ... First things first, the kiddos loved this one. Don't Flush Flushed Away
We've been looking for several good children's movies for our son and bought Flushed away without having seen it before. Luckily, we weren't disappointed with it. It's actually a pretty good movie. And that's my opinion of it as an adult. My son loves it and it manages to be cute and funny with a decent plot while avoiding some of the innuendo that you see in many animated movies nowadays. I would certainly recommend this movie for anyone with children.
