The corset-clad actress stars as Georgiana Spenser, the Duchess of Devonshire. With her marriage to the duke (Ralph Fiennes), Georgiana achieves an impressive level of fame as Britons follow both her clothing style and her political advice. But even celebrity and wealth can't act as a salve in her marriage to the boring, boorish duke. When he begins to flaunt his affairs, Georgiana is tempted to return to a teenage crush, Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper of THE HISTORY BOYS), to the anger of her husband and her mother (Charlotte Rampling, SWIMMING POOL).<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>Fiennes's portrayal of the duke ranks roughly with his Lord Voldemort on a scale of beastly behaviour, but the acclaimed actor manages to give him a level of humanity that far surpasses what he deserves.     Heartwarming and Heartbreaking, engaging, compulsive viewing!

    A very powerful and moving film whose realistic portrayal of how life was for the Duchess of Derbyshire can only be described as engaging, heartwarming, heartbreaking and challenging all at the same time. Knightley and Fiennes are well suited to their roles and their performances are absolutely faultless. I loved this film and would strongly recommend it to anyone who likes period dramas.

    Good story & good value

    I love period drama films and this one did not disappoint me, the story did remind me of Lady Diana and her life in the Royal family. The costumes and hair wigs were huge, A truly enjoyable film, so glad I never had a mother like the Duchess had!
