About this product

Product Information

Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden makes its hotly anticipated DS debut in an original adventure filled with the fast-paced fighting sequences fans expect from the series. Dragon Sword features a mix of 2D backgrounds and 3D characters, as players guide the nimble Ryu Hayabusa across a series of pre-rendered screens using the touch-screen interface. The DS is held like a book, with the default orientation displaying an overhead map on the left and the action on the right. Tapping the right screen not only controls Ryu's movement, but it also initiates actions like jumps, shuriken throws, and combat with his trusted Dragon Sword. Combat involves moving the stylus across the screen to perform a standard slashing motion. Players can also slash downward and upward by mimicking the vertical motion with the stylus, offering a total of three sword attacks.

Ninpo techniques are also included in the handheld version, requiring players to trace an onscreen Sanskrit symbol before unleashing the powerful ability. The only technique performed without the stylus is blocking or guarding, which is accomplished simply by pressing any of the handheld's buttons. Tapping the screen while holding down a block button will allow Ryu to perform an evasive maneuver. Dragon Sword also features a playable female character as well as an assortment of unlockable surprises. Unlike the console versions, Ninja Gaiden on DS only features a sword as Ryu's main weapon. Yet the sword can be upgraded with new powers throughout the game by collecting "dark dragon" items from defeated boss characters. In a nod to earlier Ninja Gaiden titles on NES, the storyline is revealed through comic book-style panels for dramatic effect.

    A real cut up

A bit confusing at first until, you understand that, game play is done with the stylus pen. But, a very good game

  • Great Game, Not to happy about the screen format

I played this game on my ps3, and I have to tell you that the graphics and the gameplay on the DS, are great. is really fluid, but I wish they have done a game that makes use of the D-pad and the A B X Y buttons, and maybe to have the game on a horizontal view instead of holding it like a book. they should have that as option, I would love to see a new game created exclusive to the DS console, maybe by reviving the ninja gaiden classic on NES. that would be nice. a more modern version of it. Great Game!!!

  • Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword.......A Definite Keeper!!

I must say that i'm very impressed with the port of this game. Although it's nowhere near as violent, the game play is very good. Using the stylus to move, vs. the control pad is different, however it works. I wish they added more than one Ninpo Attack indicator (at least 3) to help out. I've been a fan of the Ninja Gaiden Series since it came to the PS3. I played it a little on the original NES, however I wasn't really into it. For a handheld version of this game, I would give it a 8.5. The fact that there's no blood, more weapons, and only one ninpo indicator attack is why I wouldn't rate it a 10.

  • Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword Review

I would say that this game is exceptionally good. Here are some reasons why. Reason #1: The movement of characters are quite fluid, and the DS doesn't hog down with several enemies on the screen. This provides you with a constant feel for action and a sense of overall pride and satisfaction when enemies around you are thrown and slashed to their utter defeat. Reason #2: The story is well done, with cut screen pictures and voice sounds such as cackling, grunting, (in battle as well), and thoughtful hums and hmms when something has come to the main characters attention. The movement and the story really reminds one of an old dubbed karate film to give you an idea of what the story and characters are like, but not so much so that it is corny. Reason #3: There are touch screen controls ...

  • Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword-Well Worth It!

Excellent game. Pros It completely utilizes the touchscreen, combat/gameplay is engaging using the stylus to slash/shoot/flip/roll/and get the drop on enemies. Graphics are very well done. 3D graphics, bosses in general look amazing. Great graphics considering the DS's graphics ability. Good story to hold up the game but not too much talking and the start button can be used to skip most of the speeches if you don't want to read. Music matches scenery different music theme for each area. Cons The game is a little on the easy side in Normal- a solid gamer can go through it in less than ten hours but the difficulty after finishing can be upped. Top screen is only used for map and the tutorial text in the beginning.
