Timothy Dalton's 1st Time As 007
In his 1st appearance as James Bond, Timothy Dalton does a passable job (though not as smooth and glamorous as Sean Connery)he has his own appeal. The story centers around the defection of a Soviet KGB officer named General Koskov played by Jeroen Krabbe who has information on a Soviet plot to eliminate Britain's MI-6. With orders to dispose of Koskov's superior played by John Rhys-Davies, Bond discovers a secret plot between Koskov and an American arms merchant played by Joe Don Baker. Bond must race against time to foil the plot and save the world. None of which would be possible without the help of the typical Bond protoge' played by Maryam d'Abo, Koskov's musically inclined lover. Dalton's interpretation of the Bond character is a leaner, meaner 007 with almost no sense of humor. The ... One Of The Strongest Bond Films
Mercifully, the run of Bond films that don't treat females the way they were treated in Bond films like Goldfinger, Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun continued with this film. In this one, the action scenes are great and thrilling. The plot is fleshed out and drawn out with the right amount of suspense. Just as importantly, James Bond focuses on his spying instead of one-night stands in this film. The Bond girl, Kara, is innocent but brave and saves James Bond's ass at one critical point.
