About this product

Product Information

The mid 1970s witnessed huge wealth being amassed from the extraction of oil from deep below the shifting sands of the vast Arabian deserts. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underwent an amazing metamorphosis, unparalleled in human history. Chaos ruled! With lily white knees and flapping shorts, Robin Shea appeared in the Red Sea port of Jeddah to stake a claim in the oil boom. After ten years of service in the U.K. Police, frustration swept through his mundane existence, the desire to earn money burned deep. Could he drive? That was the question. Having left a stable job and family in pursuit of wealth, the only answer was Of course! I can drive anything! Robin soon found himself behind the wheel of a huge articulated truck, a vehicle which he had never driven before. In searing heat, he observed the emergence of a modern nation while travelling the breadth of Saudi Arabia, through cities that were huge building sites, on roads that teemed with madmen driving at breakneck speed, who fervently believed their God would protect them, so why have brakes, lights, or in some cases-a full set of wheels. It was a sign of weakness to allow ather driver to catch up and if a massive truck appeared in their path- problem, just close your eyes and accelerate!

Author Biography
Robin Shea lives in southern England. A former cop, he has been active for many years in the international business scene; however, when time permits, Robin pursues his real passion - writing. His early literary efforts have been featured by BBC Television. His poetry has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. In 2012, Robin published his first novel, ARBOIS (A Winter's Trials and Tribulations), a humorous tale set in the French Alps. Fr. Joseph Arbois, the village priest and his parishioners suffer many trials and tribulations perpetrated by witches, ghosts, and time warps, they attend mass in a church which is likely to collapse at any moment due to an infestation of a particularly pernicious strain of woodworm. And, as if that weren't enough, the good Father is constantly in peril of being swept up by one of the amazing, but slightly flawed inventions of the local aristocrat, Count Altermark du Claud Bonneville and dumped into the icy waters of the River Arve. ARBOIS is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Always happy with the Nile's service. Whilst dispatch can take longer than others, books are sourced at a great price from locations worldwide and from prior experience I know to order in advance. I ordered three expensive textbooks for uni, two weeks later they were dispatched and the next day received - all earlier than expected timeframe. Packaged very well, books intact. Great seller, updated tracking and items as described. A+++
