About this product

Product Information

Todd and Rooney were men of action; they would much rather pilot space cruisers than push pencils. One day, after sitting at his desk for a seemingly endless six hours, Todd was about to explode from restless boredom. Suddenly, Rooney burst into Todd's cubicle, manila folder in hand. Todd quickly opened the folder and read the report contained therein. A smile quickly spread across his face as he informed Rooney that they had been ordered to explore a distant planet. "Whoooppeeee!!!" Rooney cried.

Unfortunately, the planet in question is Slime World, which is made of an unknown type of semi liquid material. Many victims have already been claimed by the oozing and gurgling globs of green, blue and red slime. Fearless and determined to break out of their cubicles, Todd and Rooney report for duty.

The objective in the game is to guide Todd safely through the slimy, treacherous maze of tunnels on the planet and help him find the exit to the rescue ship. If a second gamer joins in, he or she controls Rooney in cooperative or competitive play. There are six one-player and six two-player adventures from which to choose, such as Easy, Logic, Combat, Exploration, Suspense, Action and Arcade.

Maggots, flyheads, scabs, blobs, drools, headsuckers, spitters, tapeworms, bloodflies and other creatures will try to eat, slime or otherwise kill you as you run, jump, bounce, fly, stick and slide your way through the gunk-ridden underbelly of the world. A good rule to live by is this: if it's slimy and moving, you should probably avoid and/or shoot it. Many of the slimy beings will spray deadly slime upon being shot.

You begin the game with a pressurized water gun that has an unlimited supply of ammo. You can pick up mega bombs that wipe out everything, slime bait that attracts and kills creatures, cleanser that turns slime pools into water, a jet pack that enables you to fly, and other useful tools and power-ups. Slime gems give you extra points, mushrooms add a minute to the timer, and slime shields cleanse and protect. The greener you are from slime, the weaker and slower you will move. If you get too green you will lose a life and be sent back to the last green arrow restart point.

Todd's Adventures in Slime World is played from a side-view perspective. A map on the right side of the screen will help you keep track of your progress as you tunnel through the slime. Each time you pause the game, a code appears that enables you to restart at that point.

  • One of the most underrated platformers on the Genesis

This is split screen co-op gaming at it's best. Now while this may not have the best graphics, sound, or tightest controls, the gameplay alone is so good that this is definitely worth playing. There is both competitive and cooperative split screen multiplayer. This is a very little known gem of a game that certainly didn't get it's due praise.
