About this product

Product Information

Travel to a galaxy far, far away to join thousands of other gamers as they battle for the Alliance, the Empire, or their own survival and prosperity. Multimedia giant LucasArts Entertainment enters the realm of persistent-world gaming with Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. As in founding MMORPGs, such as EverQuest and Asheron's Call, the Galaxies player begins by creating an online personality, choosing the character's race, appearance, and profession. Unlike other massively multiplayer games, however, LucasArts' virtual worlds are set in the sci-fi Star Wars universe.

Become a Mon Calimari artisan or play as a Rodian marksman. Grow rich as an interplanetary smuggler or learn to serve the Dark Side in the role of an outcast Jedi. Join the Rebel Alliance, swear fealty to the Empire, or remain neutral. Star Wars Galaxies is designed to allow players to follow in the footsteps of their favorite characters from the Star Wars films or discover all new possibilities playing as lesser-known races and classes. Similarly, the persistent galaxy will be full of planets to explore or exploit, some as familiar as Tatooine and Coruscant, others yet unknown to all but the most ardent fans.

Character progression is relatively open, as each hero begins with base abilities and a number of "skill points" to assign as desired. As much as any other aspect, a character's abilities define his or her role in the game and skills are organized by "professions," such as Architect or Bounty Hunting. Players may choose to develop their characters to specialize in the skills of a certain profession, or may strive for a multi-talented character who is a "jack-of-all-trades" (but master of none). Acquisition of new skills is not automatic, as players may often need to achieve a certain status or complete a given quest to advance. Training is not always free.

As the game is set in the Star Wars universe, players who enter Star Wars Galaxies find themselves in the middle of a galactic civil war. Most player-vs.-player elements of the game occur in this context. Publicly or discreetly, characters can side with the Rebels, the Empire, or the Hutt criminal underworld. Open declaration of such an alliance may allow for combat situations with player characters of opposing factions, but characters may also take sides without such a public announcement, allowing them to serve their faction without drawing so much dangerous attention from rivals.

In development for several years, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is designed to bring the Star Wars universe to life at an unprecedented level of detail. The game is powered by a new 3D engine which allows rich environments and seamless transitions from one area to the next. In addition to exploration on foot, player characters will eventually be able to travel across planets and through space in a variety of vehicles. Characters can build and own houses or run their own factories. They can create and join new guilds and teams, with a pledge of developer support for such player-run associations. Ongoing future additions and expansions are promised as well, such that the Force may be with players for years to come.

    Old, Original, and Great Gameplay

Keep in mind Sony Online Entertainment no longer supports this game with official servers. Played on SWGEmu's "official" unofficial server "Basilisk" with original disc set, you can relive those days before the New Game Experience ruined the fun of the game. For those for you who remember the pure joy of traversing the Star Wars Universe and being able to live your own tale, this is the game for you.

  • Star Wars Galaxies, a game divided

Star Wars Galaxies, was a smashing hit upon release but has since changed its format. At release the general conscience was that it is fun for PvP, Crafters, Soloist, and group oriented players alike. Today the Star Wars Galaxies players once loved is no more. Today you're either going to love it or hate it. Many of the core game dynamics that made it intriguing to users are gone. Once you could make a hybrid character mixing professions to make an all-your-own type of character, today you pick 1 of 9 character types and pretty much follow that throughout. The mystery and challenge of unlocking the Jedi is now gone, today you can simply opt to be a Jedi and go. While this has turned off a lot of the current players as well as former players, whom may have thought of coming back, it has ...

  • Great game! Just sharing some insight on the private servers available to play this SWG.

Game arrived in great condition. No scratches. Haven’t played since 2011. I’m having a BLAST!! I recommend the private server, “SWG Legacy” because it is more of a complete server than “SWGEmu.” Also, playing this game on the SWGEmu your character will get reset. That doesn’t happen with SWG Legacy. The game is updated regularly and new heroics are being made on Legacy. I recommend reading about the “SWG Legacy” and “SWGEmu” private servers before buying the game.

  • Awesome before the big Patch

I bought this because you need the original discs to play the game PRE patched. Sony released a patch that pretty much broke the entire game and forced half of the player population to leave, but with the originals you can play on a private server before the game was bonked. Aside from being awesome because it's Star Wars, it also pretty entertaining. Lots of fighting PVE and PVP as well as quest lines. Character customization is also a plus.

  • The Only Star Wars MMO Worth Your Time, Even by Emulation

Star Wars Galaxies holds a special place in my heart as my first MMO game. While I may be a WoW junkie now, this game still holds a strong interest with me via the emulation community that has revived most of the game through reverse engineering of the original source code. If you decide to seek out the emulation, you will need a set of these discs to access it. While the emulation isn't a complete recreation of the game just yet, it's constantly updating and being worked on to bring back the experience of Galaxies before Sony essentially ruined the game with interface and combat updates very few players liked. The character creation is robust with customization, some of the lesser-known alien races are well done and have unique traits that mesh well with the various classes. Be a Bothan ...
