  • A lavish how to for miniature painters!

This was the original Foundry Miniatures painting guide by their resident artist Kevin Dallimore who also worked for Games Workshop in the early days. Subsequently Foundry has released a Masterclass book by Mr. Dallimore and an update Foundry Painting and Modeliing Guide this year with its newly expanded Foundry Paint System. This is really transitional miniature painting from days of washes and dry brushing to the beginnings of the paint triad system that both Reaper and Foundry have developed. The new laying method sees its first appearance here with examples of lighter shades to build up color transitions. I was fortunate to get this copy in really what was near mint condition at a remarkably low price. It usually sells for upwards of $90 to $100 on used book sites.

  • Foundry Painting guide

For the past two years I have tried to expand my miniature painting. I have dabbled in it before, but have gotten more serious lately. I wanted a guide with lots of photos and step by step material, and this guide delivers. If you are just starting on the road to mniature painting, I can not recommend this book enough. It has superb, easy to follow instructions on painting, and shows examples of the different level of painting you can expect to achieve. The book is full of pictures, and each step in the painting process is clearly illustrated. The road from a bland piece of lead to a ready to diplay or play model is well defined. All the tools necessary are shown clearly, and there are different suggestions useful even to a seasoned painter. While many guides focus on one era or shpere, ...

  • Meh, but on the high side of mehness

Rather basic information, and quite redundant: how many times do they need repeat verbatim what drybrushing means? ? There are many good photos but the style of painting is rather specific, dated and not to my liking. That said I did pick up a trick or two I didn’t know - and I started painting nearly 40 years ago. I’m glad I bought it if only so I wouldn’t wonder if I should have.
