About this product

Product Information

John Moore's remake of Richard Donner's unsettling 1976 horror classic increases the quality of production values, yet stays very true to the original. Live Schreiber (EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED) plays Robert Thorn, a wealthy American official living in Rome, whose wife, Kate (Julia Stiles, MONA LISA SMILE), has just lost her first child. At the behest of a strange priest, Robert substitutes an orphaned child for his own without Kate's knowledge, and soon the small family is living an idyllic existence on a lavish estate in England. But when the child, Damian (Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick), turns five years old, strange things begin to happen, beginning with a nanny's public and very grisly suicide at the boy's lavish birthday party. Kate begins to notice odd things about her child, such as the way other children don't want to play with him, his strange provocation of animals, and his increasingly pronounced withdrawal from her. By the time she begins fearing for her life, however, it may be too late, and it's up to her husband to figure out once and for all if the child really is the spawn of Satan. Thus Robert embarks on a journey that takes him back to Italy, Jerusalem, and an encounter with a priest of decidedly horrific mien; he's aided by a photographer who has figured out what's going on, and who just might be the next one to die. The atmospheric, spooky mise-en-scene, marked by an almost constant storm and grey tones interrupted by startling reds, deliciously makes the most of the film's exaggeratedly apocalyptic message. The wonderful Mia Farrow (ROSEMARY'S BABY) is unbelievably creepy as Damian's replacement nanny.

  • Remake Warning!!!

Since Hollywood has run out of good ideas we must suffer remakes of all sorts. This one may be better than its original but that's not saying much at all. The boy who plays Damien is creepy and there are a few shocking deaths throughout the story. But the pace is much too slow to keep anyone who saw the same theatrical trailer advertising a fast pace thriller interested for the whole movie. There is an all-star cast and the story has some fun twists and turns but the acting feels forced except for action sequences. Check this out if you are a fan of the original or just have to see every horror movie ever created. Anyone else can pass this one up and rest easy by doing it. 3/5

  • The Omen (2006, DVD)

If you want a remake of a classic that does its predecessor justice and then some, The Omen (2006) is just what you've been waiting for. John Moore plays it close to the bone next to Richard Donner's original horror masterpiece. Though it's pretty close to a scene for scene remake their are enough twists both subtle and dramatic to still make you jump! Their were times when I actually forgot I was watching the remake. This was largely due to the fine portrayal Robert Thorn by Liev Schreiber. There are several scenes where you are certain you just heard the line read by Gregory Peck. Mrs. Blaylock is cast perfectly with Mia Farrow stealing a couple of scenes, one of which is her violent death toward the climax. Julia Stiles is a close match to Lee Remick and she does a great job with the ...

  • Could Of Been Better

Well, this movie it is pretty much like the orignal one just a little bit better, and I do mean just a little bit. I collect movies and mostly horror movies, and I will say this one is not one of my favorites but I am glad that I have it for my collection, and I did enjoy it a little it wasn't to bad or anything like that it's just that when I watched it I felt I already saw it a few times. I will give this movie a 3.5 Star rating out of a 5.

  • Not the original !

How much you like this movie will probably depend on whether or not you've seen the original. If you haven't seen it then you'll probably think this is a good creepy movie - which it is, but the original was far more creepy. They left the creepy sound track out of the remake and the sound track really made the first movie. You should watch both and see what a difference a sound track makes in a movie. The graveyard scene in the first was also alot better - more dark and gloomy. Both are worth watching.

  • The omen

The movie was pretty close to the old one. That is why I bought it to see how close the story lines would be. Overall the movie was better than what i thought it would be.
