About this product

Product Information

A killing virus has swept the earth, sparing only children through the age of twelve. There is chaos everywhere, even in formely prosperous mid-America. Gangs and fierce armies of children begin to form almost immediately. It would be the same for the children on Grand Avenue but for Lisa, a ten-year-old girl who becomes their leader. Because of Lisa, they have food, even toys, in abundance. And now they can protect themselves from the fierce gangs that roam the neighborhoods. But for how long? Then Lisa conceives the idea of a fortress, a city in which the children could live safely and happily always, and she intends to lead them there.

  • Good but flawed.

I love the premise of the book, but I think it's unrealistic that these childern would've pulled themselves up by the boot straps in just one week of loosing not only their families, but their community as well. A month, yeah, but in only 7 days after all the adults dying, these kids would be basket cases first. Then, those who didn't starve to death first would rise up and begin organizing others. I'm a bit partial to the book because I'm from Glen Ellyn and always had fantasies of living as a queen in Glenbard West. I don't know much about the author, but the last time I saw Todd he'd joined a born again christian church and wasn't easy to relate to. The family is still good people and I still like the book, it just needs major tweeking.

  • Interesting title.

Interesting concept. My daughter had to buy it for school reading otherwise I probably would never have purchased the book. She said it was one of the better books that she had to read for school this year.
