You'd be hard-pressed to find a more inexpensive receiver with the capability to serve as the heart of a surround set-up outside of home-theater-in-a-box solutions.This receiver offers five channels of 100 watt amplification delivered through banana-plug terminals. Extremely pleased! The Kenwood VR-309 received arrived in pristine condition, works great, and was shipped inside the most gorilla-proof packaging I've ever seen! I've never seen so much bubble wrap in one box. And I'm glad! I was concerned about buying this relatively heavy item (~20 lbs), and even offered to pay a bit extra for more robust packaging, but... the seller graciously declined the extra $ and said he ALWAYS packages items robustly. He was not exaggerating. Cheers!

I was actually replacing a VR-309 I'd had for years. It still worked perfectly except the receiver would no longer respond to the remote control. Since I already had a working remote, I ordered this receiver. There was damage to the housing which wasn't mentioned in the ad and was beyond 'normal wear and tear'. It was visibly noticeable on both sides of the receiver. The metal cover was also visibly damaged - bent on both sides as well. When I removed the cover, I also discovered that the headphone jack was broken off so that would have been useless. Once I hooked it up to my system, the tuner came on and it sounded fine but the input select knob and the multi control knob on the front just spun around. Neither of them worked at all generally rendering the unit useless. I paid 21 bucks ... I was actually replacing a VR-309 I'd had for years. Great Receiver
I had a kenwood VR-307 a few years ago, and I lost it in a move. Have been checking on a new reciever for a couple of weeks now.The seller gave a very good description of it, and when I got it . I was more than satisfied. It has s-video input and output connections digital and anologports. All in all it has 100 watts per channel and a port for a powered sub for more boost.
