Series 3 HD TIVO... What TIVO was meant to be from the Start
Need a Tivo upgrade?? Start here first. with upgraded harddrives in them 1TB plus and the option to add external storage. This is what Tivo was meant to be. with Dual tuners OTA HD TV is a great option if you live close to HD stations and the ability to record 2 shows and watch a third is a big plus. They are light-years ahead of the series 1-2 models but still have the familiar TiVo interface that you know so well. Reasonable priced even with Lifetime service don't pass one up when you find a taken care of one for saleNeed a Tivo upgrade?? Old boxes that are good, but unsupported by TiVo
These boxes are out of support from TiVo. This particular one came in functional shape, but I bought it for parts to keep my lifetime support box (bought in 2009) running (it's power supply failed). In some ways these series 3 boxes do more than the current Bolt boxes: both OTA and Cable.

TiVo HD + OTA HD + lifetime service = Awesome free tv
TiVo is an original, and awesome product. I have used TiVo since 2004, and love the way it has changed my television watching. You can pause live tv, but that is hardly ever used, the real thing is to never watch live tv. Every time we sit down to watch tv, we watch something recorded. We can skip commercials, and pause it to go to the restroom, etc. You can do these things with other dvrs, but the comparison to tivo ends there. The rest of the experience is not even close. But, alas I'm not here to be a marketer for their service, I'm here to review the device I bought. The TiVo HD is my current dvr of choice. I use it for over the air HD. I no longer use pay tv services. This device handles that extremely well. In the Atlanta area I get 30+ channels ota. The device puts out ... TiVo is an original, and awesome product. The device puts out many formats, the best being 1080i (menu output is defaulted to 720p). The newer premier and Roamio put out 1080p. I use my device in a wired Ethernet broadband network, so I can share shows (via transfer not streaming) with the other TiVo s in my house. I can also watch Netflix and other video podcasts. The netflix interface is one of the worst out on the market. You also cannot watch amazon prime, but can see amazon instant. You also need to have a place where you can always connect to the TiVo servers via phone or broadband. Those are probably the biggest drawbacks. The original hard drive is a small 160GB which means about 20HD hours. I upgraded mine to 1TB and now get 157 hours. Someday I will upgrade to a Roamio, but I'm happy now.

This is my first Tivo and i couldn't be happier. It's very user friendly, i recently purchased the wireless adapter and it's great i can see youtube videos on my tv no more having to watch them on the pc, the quality is much better, you can share programs from tivo to tivo if connected to a home network. I can record two shows at once, if i want to record tivo suggestions based on my preferences i can otherwise i can always change that option. In other words tivo is the best. I would definitely buy another one and i recommend this product to anybody that has kids because it has a kid's zone in which you set the parental controls and have control over what your kids are watching. TiVo products and service - a breath of fresh air!!
This is the best DVR interface product I have seen so far! We were using Dish service which we loved prior to purchasing our HDTV, at which point Dish became very expensive with HD the programming. We switched to Time Warner Cable which provides free HD channels, but their equipment was notoriously unreliable, had no auto-resolution of programming conflicts, would not work half the time, skip our shows, record only 6 minutes and quit working, etc, etc... In simple terms - after the DISH's DVR, Time Warner's DVR was a very frustrating experience. So, TiVo is like a breath of fresh air!! Customer support and service is incredible: polite and knowledgeable staff, very very helpful 100% of the time! Switching to TiVo was like waking up from a bad dream and stepping into a ... Knowing that this product is this good just makes the other services out there now look so much worse. With ethernet connectivity, the programming possibilities and overall experience of full potential of our HDTV is now a reality. Searching for programs, BETA search interface, programming suggestions, intuitive navigation and very easy set-up, online show selection and programming of the machine remotely makes it worth every penny. With an external HD addition, it gives 93 hours of HD recording space, which for us is so far, more than enough. I highly recommend this machine, TiVo service and everything it does. It is simply put - AMAZING!
