About this product

Product Information

Set in the beautiful misty fishing town of Port Liac in Cornwall England, SAVING GRACE--an easy-going comic gem--centers on Grace Trevethan (Brenda Blethlyn), a sweet and modest middle-aged lady, whose husband commits suicide, leaving her with his grave financial problems. While real estate agents from London prey on Grace, trying to take away her home to settle the debts, she and her faithful gardener, Matthew (Craig Ferguson), devise a plan to grow enough marijuana in her greenhouse to break even. Wiring the greenhouse with super-bright growing lamps that cause the locals to wear sunglasses at night, having the ladies for "tea" resulting in fits of laughter and silly behavior, and pulling the wool over the local vicar's eyes, the whole town gets involved in this secret "joint venture." Once Grace harvests her crop, she hits the high road to London as a pusher, trying to sell the dope to a major dealer and cash out. Director Nigel Cole has hit the nail on the head with this film. The musical score from Mark Russell has a folky, feel-good beat, and the careful filming is colorful and clear. Never once does SAVING GRACE frown on its illegal subject matter, which makes its story all the more entertaining.

    Heart warming English film

How do you save your estate when your hustling husband suddenly dies and leaves you in horrible financial debt? Grow a cash crop in your greenhouse! A lot of fun to watch with good acting and plot. Totally entertaining Brittish style! One of my favorites!!!

    Cute movie

Cute, lighthearted movie focusing on the financial woes of a widow shocked by the unknown accumulated debt of her deceased husband. The prim and proper widow now must solve the issue and with the help of her gardener, grows and attempts to sell marijuana. All events are done with a sense of humor, but there is some reality along the way. This movie probably did not receive any critical acclaim, but again, it is a lighthearted view of the Port Issac community. You must have an open mind regarding marijuana as it is the tool to solve her issues.

  • Worth a Purchase if you can get it here on ebay!

We saw this movie on our roku and died laughing. It was the best night for us in a long time, (having some laughter in a movie that wasn't predictable or usual), we loved it enough to buy it. I would have purchased this elsewhere new, but the price was double the cost I could get it here; while It's a good movie, just not worth doubling the cost of payment!! The movie in itself is almost all a spoiler if I give away even the littlest of hints, so the best thing I can tell you, is that Craig Ferguson not only is acting in this, but was the director as well: suffice to say, it's funny, intelligently put together, much in the same vain as "Calendar Girls" and "Full Monty". It's worth owning as the humor doesn't get old after the first watching, which was my concern, I needn't have ...

  • Memorable, cheeky and very enjoyable film.

I rented this years ago, and thought it was great. I just ordered the dvd. Its the kind of great film that the cheeky touching story sticks with you years later. Classic British humor and humility!!! Watch it. MR UPDATE. Craig you're my favorite late nite tv show host. I adore your brand of humor. This film, which I think you wrote... is brilliant. 10 thumbs up. MR 7/7/2009... I just watched this GREAT film again, you have to put this one in regular rotation, because it just delivers good bit of British humor with a Scotsman thrown in. A very 420 friendly film. lol. MR

  • "I love Grace!"

A funny, witty, clever little English comedy movie with a great cast, excellent dialogue, and downright funny situations. Without giving too much away, an English widow finds a very unique way to keep her property after her husband dies. The ending is side splitting funny, as is the rest of the film.
