About this product

Product Information

Vanessa Snyder (Alexa Vega) is a middle schooler whose future is bright: she's a straight A-student, a star on the soccer team, and her mother's (Lisa Vidal) pride and joy. Pretty, popular, and well-adjusted, Vanessa finds that her life turns upside down when her so-called best friend (Leah Pipes) turns on her, mounting a smear campaign of monumental proportions, and setting Vanessa on a path to self-destruction that her mother desperately tries to prevent.

  • Great DVD for teens!

I speak to groups on relational aggression which is the kind of emotional bullying that goes on in this movie. It has wonderful examples of ignoring, cyber-bullying, exclusion and several other types of relational aggression in it. I would recommend mothers watching this with their 12 to 14 year old daughters just to get the conversation going about this type of bullying that usually flies under the radar. Girls need to feel like they can talk to someone if this is happening to them. I have two beefs with this movie: The ending was hokey. Behavioral change on this kind of bullying doesn't come quickly and doesn't end with the target telling the aggressor off. The target was a little too innocent, too. In most cases, given the opportunity and power-base, the target would do the same ...

  • Every young girl should see this film

Odd Girl Out takes you into a Middle School environment where a girl becomes an outsider over rumors. These rumors become worse and worse, eventually making the girl a total outsider. I feel that this movie will show all young girls how silly some arguments really are. I think that it will make all children think twice before treating someone poorly. A young girl turns to extreme measures and almost loses her life because of the way the other students are treating her. Many young children come home crying everyday because of the way they are treated by their peers, every parent and child should watch this film and discuss it together. This movie can prevent many children from being bullied or becoming bullied themselves. I give this movie an A++++

  • Odd Girl Out

This movie was purchased because my daughter was told about it at school. She said it was recommended to her. She loved it because it showed her how to handle mean bullies and how when it comes your way and how to recognize it. She also said there was only one negative she can think of about it and that was she hoped it would have been a bit longer showing other different instructions and bully examples and how to handle that behavior to try and defuse it when it arose and how to come out the winner in that situation. After she watched the DVD she said she enjoyed it and also said it impacted her because she could relate to the story in her own life from an incident in her past. It also gave her some views as to how to be careful in her daily living and some examples of ways to handle ...

  • GreatTool for an Anti-Bully Lesson

This was an outstanding reflection of what happens to a nice girl who is bullied incessantly in school. It was like watching my Granddaughter's dilemma unfold....especially after the 'dance party'...brought me to tears. Every teacher and guidance counselor should see this movie to help understand the profound evil that some kids endure every day in school. I loved the ending where WORDS became all powerful against the bully and NOT violence ...especially when people tell the victim to physically strike back. Kudos to the author/director who kept the victim true to herself. I am giving this DVD to my Granddaughter's school and I have one for myself.

  • DVD Odd Girl Out

THis is a perfect example of the effects of bullying on young adolescents. I bought it after viewing this movie several months ago with my own daughter on TV. I work in a middle school and was looking at a dramatic way to show the students the effect their behavior has on others. The only problem is the language used. I wish there was a way to have the same movie without the few cuss words as I will have to work around them to utilize this in my teaching. Excellent product otherwise.
