Their best... period
Sep is a band that has evolved in so many different directions over the years, its hard to know which albums to get if you're a casual fan. If you are a thrash metal fan, this is an ABSOLUTE MUST. The riffs and lead work are scalding, the drumming is surgical and pummeling, the lyrics are acidic, & the songs are tight, well structured, and always keep you interested. Only Chaos A.D. has clearer production in their entire discography. Some of the best thrash you can find in the entire genre. I'm not much of a fan of anything after Roots (although truth be told, subsequent albums still contained moments of genius). Their vision became to broad for my tastes. On Arise, songs like Dead Embryonic Cells, Infected Voice, Altered State, & the title track are a tour-de-force of the genre and the ... greatest metal cd of all time?
NO, not of "all time". But pretty Damn close! This cd DOES NOT RELENT, from its haunting introduction, to the devestating end. It is SEP's crowning Achievement in my opinion. (with CHAOS AD a close second) The drums are mind- numbing fast and the fills are tight as you will EVER hear from ANY drummer. They blast thru the recording like an assault of AK-47s bursting away at you... The guitar riffs are just as fast... Tight and passionate in their delivery, taking you up to great hights and then dragging you thru Hells gate...and when you get there, Max is waiting, Growling at you and demanding a blood sacrifice for your sins. Overstating? Maybe, but ive read other reviews on this recording and find mine to be "Tame". BUY this cd, and learn what REAL METAL is...... ... NO, not of "all time". But pretty Damn close!
