    Great receiver - but...

This is a great receiver at this price point. Lots of features, plenty of power for most rooms/people. One major problem for me, was that it advertises that in a 5.1 set-up, you can use the extra 2 speaker outs (it's a 7.2 receiver) to feed another set of speakers in another room. This was a great feature that I wanted. After set-up, I read the fine print: you can't play any DIGITAL sources out of these outputs, just ANALOG signals. That makes this 'feature' pretty much USELESS. WHY!? My last Denon AVR receiver lasted 8 or 9 years, then the display went out, while it still worked.

  • Solid all-purpose receiver

You need a new receiver and you wanna keep it around $500ish? This is your target. Had to replace my outdated & busted but higher-end Denon (AVR 4800). Mrs. Me was also in on this decision, so it had to be reigned back a bit from the origonal $2k-ish I'd spent. Sound quality is good, on-screen menus are useful (though its surprising how dependent you have to be on the app, rather than the remote). Only 2 drawbacks: had to use the video analogue in for my turntable - the machine lacks analogue in for anything else - and though it tells me I have an Aux input, there isn't one I can find anywhere on the unit. Setup, on the other hand, is a DREAM. Automatically checks and optimizes speaker dynamics and delay with enclosed mic via built-in Audissey app. Seriously, awesome. It's good for ...

  • Definitely right for me

I had one before my little dog lifted his leg on it and shorted it out. Reading the reviews, this unit is said to still be better than the later model of the same thing. I wanted a unit I knew I really liked, knew how to use, and one that was still rated very highly for this price range.

  • Solid performer

Great sound, this is my third unit and second Denon. They've made the setup sequence so much easier and better than before. With the performance and options this has you can't go wrong. Studying the manual before setup is recommended if not for anything but understanding how much this unit can do.

  • Upgraded to AVR S730H for 4K HDR compliance

This receiver is amazing and works perfect with 4K HDR movies etc. I run three devices through it the only issue I’m having is with my Roku Uktra which sometimes throws hdcp errors for no reason, I believe it’s on their side. My other Sony 4K HDR blue ray and streamer works perfectly as does my FIOS set top box.
