    Good but not great

I had the original 100-300 and didn't like the sharpness at anything over ~260-300. I sold it and got the 100-300 mk II. It seems that it pretty much has the same glass. The weather sealing is good and the auto focusing is faster but it isn't noticeably sharp at the long end. That being said, perhaps that is the best one can expect at that price point. At this price point, size, and weight I haven't found a comparable micro 4/3 lens that offers more. I'm sure it would be a hit if someone would make a sharper version of this lens.

Great price and weight but a tad soft

On the plus side, this lens is light and affordable. The image resolution is average, not as good as the 100-400 sibling but also half the weight and price. The auto focus is not as good as my other shorter focal length lenses, but In Nov 2018, Panasonic is supposed be coming out with a software update that will fix the focus problem. If this works, I’d add a star to my review. If razor sharp photo are your goal, spend more on the 100-400. If you work without a tripod, the 100-300 is a very nice compromise.

  • Ok. If you want a cheap long lens. Not sharp enough for me.

I found this lens to be unsatifactory. While it does give you reach comparted to the 100-400mm Panasonic Leica, there is not comparison. The 100-400mm is far sharper. Long lens suffer from many maladies, along with sharpness is contrast. Images seems to be low contrast. While not as bad as a mirror lens, I would not recommend this lens. The Panasonic Leica 100-400mm is far superior in sharpness and contrast. It is 4 times the price and worth every penny. The only other options are the Olympus Pro 4-150mm and teleconverter, or cropped. I can't attest to that but i have some some sharp images produced by that lens. Again--worth the price if you have an Olympus camera body. If I had to go cheap, I'd buy an adapter and use a manual focus full frame zoom, and if possible, a ...

  • Good Enough Is Pretty Darned Good!

I've read the this lens is soft at its extremes. I think, in fact, this is true, but "soft" is relative. It produces useable images that satisfy my needs perfectly. If you're a pixel peeper and aren't happy with anything less that what a $2000 lens would produce, you might not like it. I don't have that need. The lens I received was in excellent condition. The included photo is of a radio tower that's a little over a mile away. I shot this hand-held at the 300mm setting.

  • Good VFM (Value-for-Money) Tele Lens

Purchased used in excellent condition and it is a great value at this price point (~30% less than new)., A nice addition to my lens kit and totally needed to cover the extended focal lengths. Tested in various scenarios and so far I am pleased with the results.
