Best introduction to the work of Philip K. Dick
To me this is the best way to get the best of Philip K. Dick's novels without hunting up vintage paperbacks. Lethem did a great job of picking a top 4 for the first collection. My only quibble- I would have included A Scanner Darkly, but it'd be tough to choose which one to replace and Scanner is in volume two. If you want the best pick of novels for an introduction to Dick's work, this is it. It had been about 25 years since I'd read The Man in the High Castle. i didn't quite get it when I read it the first time (I was pretty young). This time around, I had more historical knowledge to bring to the reading. What Dick did here was brilliant. I just finished reading it last week and i came out feeling as though there were nuances i still wasn't picking up on. I also just read Lawrence ... Clarice Lispector is a writer that deserves attention from every serious reader. It is where she writes from that makes her relevant. She dwells in a separate reality.

Excellent selection of novels by award-winning author Philip K. Dick including The Man in the High Castle which was selected as one of Time magazine's 100 must-read novels. Also includes Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, upon which the movie Bladerunner was based. I love his writing style and the fascinating machinery of his mind which transfers so well into his novels.
