About this product

Product Information

The third entrant in Intellivision's "Gaming Network" line, Horse Racing simulates a day at the races with as many as six players betting a ten-race program. Realism is the rule as the game provides an onscreen racing form, pari-mutuel odds, various track conditions (turf, dry or wet tracks), a field of eight horses with randomly selected characteristics (slow on turf, distance runners, etc.), and much more.

Unlike real horse racing, players can improve their horses' chances by positioning them, "coaxing" them into a minor burst of speed or "whipping" them into giving it their all. A smart, highly unusual game, Horse Racing has nice graphics and sounds, highlighted by a nice rendition of the "William Tell Overture" as an opening theme.

Game is entertaining for an older game. Betting action is standard track betting i.e trifectas, win, place or show... Gameplay is pretty tough. When and where to whip your horse is key to whether you win the pot or go scrounging the curb for pennies. Only two set backs for this game are: when whipping the horse and it runs out of steam it will make you wait the minute or so for it to cross the finish line, also the max limit to winnings is $9,999. Otherwise a fun, retro game with decent action and only a few minor hiccups.
