A Masterly Told Tale of Two Stories
Whether you care about sports, sports heroes, baseball, baseball heroes, or movie star celebrities (Marilyn), this book is a blockbuster for anyone who appreciates good writing.! Richard Ben Cramer has created a refreshing and definitely original masterpiece of something that is more than a biography. Like Robert Cramer's STENGEL, this book is about the life AND TIMES of Joe DiMaggio. Cramer's Pulitzer Prize winning background in journalism allows him to report such a rich setting of people and events in Joe's time that the contrast makes Joe's story all the more vivid. What impressed me most about his writing was that he gives you completely objective reports about both the positive and negative aspects of the Joe DiMaggio story, but then, he ALSO gives you his completely honest and ... Whether you care about sports, sports heroes, baseball, baseball heroes, or movie star celebrities (Marilyn), this book is a blockbuster for anyone who appreciates good writing.! Richard Ben Cramer has created a refreshing and definitely original masterpiece of something that is more than a biography. This book by Richard Ben Cramer is a concise and detailed account of the life of the "Yankee Clipper ". The book is full of praise and respect for the player, but for the man himself it portrays an egotistical, self-serving, frugal, and often lonely man. A must read for a Dimaggio or Yankee fan!
