Great movie for kids as well as adults

This disc set contains the best of both world; with both a Blu-Ray and DVD discs. The movie combines lots of humor with some subtle serious issues that most adults would notice (lifelong plans, death of spouse, elderly issues, dead beat dad, personal pledges, etc....). I also liked the extra features, especially the one about the writers visiting Tepuis Mountains of South America and Doug's short animated film which does tie into the film. This movie is one of my favorites and it is great to have it now a Blu-ray. If you like movies with some dead thought involved; you will not be disappointed. Just don't get distracted if someone yells "squirrel!"

  • Up Is Hilarious, Top-Notch, and Bigger Than Bambi

Pixar's newest animated feature "UP", is a real gem. Carl Fredrickson (voice of Ed Asner) is a grumpy old widower who miraculously inflates enough balloons to pick up his house and fly to an exotic destination. He finds himself sharing his ride with a pudgy, Cub-Scout kid named Russell who just happened to be on the porch when the house took off. Part of the film story involves Carl's wish to meet a Lindbergh-type adventurer named Charles Muntz (voice of Christopher Plummer). Cartoon history points to Walt Disney starting in the cartoon business by creating "Oswald the Rabbit" for producer Charles Mintz, who then greedily stole the rights to Disney's creation. This pretty much just happens to be some kind of inside irony that gives a little history to this film. Of course changing the ...

  • Not just UP, but way UP!

Not just another great animated film from DISNEY PIXAR, but really something special that includes moments of real emotion and tenderness. A quick summary; It is the story of an old widower, Carl Frederickson, now alone, who wants one last adventure by tying thousands of balloons to his house and floating off to South America. An unbelievable premise, but here it works beautifully. Along the way, he meets and bonds with other characters and finds new meaning in his life. A high point is a montage of his life with his late wife, Ellie, and her loss that is both tender and heart felt. This film appeals on many levels from cartoon action to real human drama. The animation quality is fantastic, and the Blu ray picture and sound are exemplary. You should own this one!

  • What a wonderful movie, for kids of all ages

The life of Carl Fredericksen comes to life in this latest collaboration between Disney Studios and Pixar. Carl is a 78 year old man who has lived a wonderful life until his childhood sweetheart and wife passes away. Carl, left on his own and with the world moving around him has his world suddenly turned on end when developers move into the neighborhood. After a ugly encounter with one of the construction workers, Carl devises a plan to live out the childhood of himself and his wife and sail away to Paradise Falls in South America. Carl is joined by a well meaning boy scout who is trying to earn his badge by assisting an elderly person. The two sail off together into an adventure that is full of excitement and wonder. This latest movie by Pixar brings to life a heartwarming story of ...

  • Excellent family movie!!

This movie has it all....a grumpy old man with memories of sweeter days...a little boy who wants to accomplish his great goals in life, even if it is just a badge for scouts :0). Happy Dogs, confused dogs and dogs that are just bullies. Wild life that is just funny. The life learning skills they each have to put into action are simply inset into the movie. This is an all around sweet...but funny movie. There is one area that can be quit sad for young children. But the memories of happier times for the old man cover for the sadness.
