    This movie IS punk rock.

    I first viewed this movie back around 1980, before the invention of DVD players, when Malcom was showing it around Los Angeles for the first time in private movie theaters. This movie defines punk rock, whether you like the Pistols or not. This is a punk musical that reveals England's facist regime, and explains how big music corporations exploit and take advantage of rock bands (which probably led to the birth of indy labels). Sid Vicious lives on forever in this awesome piece of history. Rest in peace, Sid. Punks not dead, it just smells like it....

    Sex Pistols, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980)

    The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle is a fictional "documentary" (a "mockumentary") film directed by Julian Temple and produced by Don Boyd and Jeremy Thomas about the seminal British punk rock band Sex Pistols. It starred guitarist Steve Jones as "The Crook", bassist Sid Vicious as "The Gimmick", drummer Paul Cook as "The Tea-Maker", and the band's manager, Malcolm McLaren, as "The Embezzler". Train robber Ronnie Biggs also made appearances. Notably, singer Johnny Rotten (who was listed in the credits as "The Collaborator") only appeared in archival footage and as an animated character due to his refusal to have anything to do with the film. Original bassist Glen Matlock also appears only in archival footage and briefly in an animated segment. This really is a must buy for any Sex Pistols ...
