"All the quilt patterns featured in the book and on the included CD are creative and colorful. Of course my favorite part of the book are all the letters, which gives you a glimpse of what life was like during the 1930s. Overall, I think this a great book to own for quilters or historical buffs alike." --Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer "If you love a good story, making pieced quilts or enjoy creating quilts with a variety of different designs, this is an ideal addition to your bookshelf." --Into Craft "I liked the original Farmer's Wife book but I love this version. Each traditional block has been renamed as either a woman's name or a noun that relates to a woman- like 'Granny'. The blocks vary from relatively simple to complex with a fiendish number of pieces to sew together but they are all beautifully presented in a mix of reproduction fabrics and solids. A range of construction methods are offered. All the blocks have templates and foundation paper piecing options and there are rotary cut options for pieces that can be easily measured." --Very Kerry Berry, "All the quilt patterns featured in the book and on the included CD are creative and colorful. great quiling book

I am going to paper piece the quilt and it is so easy to put the disk in my computer and copy off the paper piece patterns . I can wait to get started on sewing this quilt . I recommend this book for any paper piece quilter or one that chooses to just piece their quilt top because both patterns are on the disc and it makes it really easy to choose which route you want to sew.

      • Fabulous Quilting record of Historic Depression Era Quilts

The books conditions was pristine, incl. disc, even though I purchased it used. The content is fascinating and interesting. Only complaint is no material quantity list for purchasing quilting fabrics for the 99 blocks. An internet search solved this problem as well as providing corrections to error for a few of the blocks in the published book. Recognizing this is to be a long-term project, it's great to read and re-read to determine where and how to start accumulating the fabric. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

      • Mesmerizing!

The stories are so touching, so personal. Even if you're not a quilter - maybe a history buff, or maybe it touches something nostalgic in you - this book is wonderful. Each block is so unique and the letters give a feel for "life back then" - and make you think that there's still hope for humanity today.

      • not so excited

Not great with the instruction. I didn't have a cd player to down load and have to search one down. that was not clear when i ordered the book. It was recommended I print and there was well over 300+ prints. the instructions just aren't so clear. I am disappointed.

      • Great book!

This book combines witty and interesting excerpts of letters written by women across the US in the Great Depression era. A delightful read! Plus 99 Farmers Wife quilt blocks honoring the aforementioned women. I definitely recommend this book!
