Synopsis
Best known for his "Legend of Duluoz" novels, including On the Road and The Dharma Bums , Jack Kerouac is also an important poet. In these eight extended poems, Kerouac writes from the heart of experience in the music of language, employing the same instrumental blues form that he used to fullest effect in Mexico City Blues , his largely unheralded classic of postmodern literature. Edited by Kerouac himself, Book of Blues is an exuberant foray into language and consciousness, rich with imagery, propelled by rythm, and based in a reverent attentiveness to the moment. "In my system, the form of blues choruses is limited by the small page of the breastpocket notebook in which they are written, like the form of a set number of bars in a jazz blues chorus, and so sometimes the word-meaning can carry from one chorus into another, or not, just like the phrase-meaning can carry harmonically from one chorus to the other, or not, in jazz, so that, in these blues as in jazz, the form is determined by time, and by the musicians spontaneous phrasing & harmonizing with the beat of time as it waves & waves on by in measured choruses." --Jack Kerouac, Eight extended poems from the acclaimed author of On the Road and Big Sur --featuring an introduction by Robert Creeley Best known for his "Legend of Duluoz" novels, Jack Kerouac is also an important poet. - 4***d (14)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThe package was delivered late because it went to the East Coast from Kansas before coming to the West Coast. However, Reliant Book Store maintained constant communication with me and was very helpful throughout the process. The three-volume series arrived in the exact condition that was advertised. These were first-edition books that replaced the stolen ones. I am satisfied with my purchase and recommend Reliant Book Store to anyone looking for excellent used books at reasonable prices. The Spiritual Man, in Three Volumes [Volumes One, Two, and Three] - Watchman... - p***r (142)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAs described ,nice price, quickly shipped but not in a padded envelope, nor with a cardboard padding inside a regular envelope, so corners of book were free to be bumped in transit. They were not. The book looked good even with a tear at one corner of the envelope. Both the seller and the buyer were lucky.
- s***k (121)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseHigh quality book arrived in good condition as described. The book's appearance is satisfactory. A great value! Shipping: Seller shipped promptly. But I received an eBay message saying: USPS made a delivery attempt but were unable to proceed due to an insufficient address. Huh? Also, shipping history said book was "Held at Post Office At Customer Request." I didn't request this to be done! Next day I went to my USPS office. They fished around & found package. My address was correct. Weird.Photographing People (Kodak No Nonsense Photography Guides) - O'Connor, Mich... (#156481824914)
