        Great for trout and panfish

Light well made reel for 6 -10 lb test line. has anti reverse and large handle . Certainly not a Stella but a great reel for light tackle opportunities . I am a Striper guy with the occasional opportunity to throw at Perch on structure and this is the perfect reel for 6 lb test and 1/8 oz jigs.

      • Best Budget Reel to Buy

These reels are the best bang for the buck; no gimmicks just good plain proven quality to get the job done. They really don't feel as cheap as the price tag is. I used a 1000 for bass fishing and it never let me down so i bought a 4000 for salt water and it is holding up fine. Rear drag is convenient for adjusting during a fight and balances the weight. The simple donkey-Kong barrel knob is just fine in the hand. Only issue some people might find is the lack of anti-reverse; it will reverse until the bail is at 12 o'clock and then stop, allowing you to use only one hand and one finger to pick up the line and open the bail. You are trading infinite anti-reverse for convenience so you can flip lures one handed all day long. Either buy this or spend a lot more money for a bullet proof ...

      • My Second IX 4000 and I love it.

This is my second Shimano IX4000. I absolutely love this reel. I use it for Perch fishing off the rocks in Seal Beach and Long Beach, Ca. It works perfectly every single time. I have yet to have a single issue or failure. It isn't a top of the line by any means, obviously, but for the money you get great quality one can expect from Shimano. I put my first one through hell. It has been dropped on rocks, dropped in the salt water, fought and caught many fish and yet she just keeps going strong. My only recommendation is that you clean it after using it for salt water fishing. I take mine apart and wash it in Dawn Dish Soap. I let the spool with the line soak to make sure the salt is lifted off the line and reel.

      • Shimano

I've been using these reels for years now! Never had a problem! Freshwater or Saltwater! They are strong and very easy to clean! I've taken 20 plus pound Red Drum in the Gulf of Mexico to large Northern Pike and Walleye in Minnesota! Never a problem! Yes I could spend a lot more money on a fancy reel but I prefer to use the extra money to get to my favorite fishing area's! I have 5 of these!
