It captures the shortcomings of a mechanized health care industry. Mandy Patinkin is delivers a charming performance as the MacKee's rival surgeon, Murray.Director Randa Haines sets a qualitative standard in this hospital melodrama. The cinematography, story, and acting are all flawless.

    Funny, profound, insightful

    I watched this movie year’s ago when I was in college. My best friend was studying to be a doctor. I thought it was a great gift in light of her professional plans. She’d be my family’s doctor and I would be her lawyer (my planned career path). The movie gives us a likes le doctor on an unplanned journey to a belief system he ridiculed likely his whole career. My favorite scene is in the hospital stairwell with his partner. When you see it, you’ll know.

    Excellent Movie

    The movie is almost 30 years old but still has excellent meaning today. The story of an arrogant self-absorbed cardiac surgeon and how he changes when he becomes a cancer patient. William Hurt is one of the best playing odd and different characters and he is just right for this part. Every medical student should watch this film to show and develop true empathy for those that are so vulnerable when sick. Perfectly cast and well acted with a great story. Worth the time.
