Great unit for the price .
This is the third megahome distiller, I have purchased. I would recommend you buy a heavy duty timer and set it for 5&1/2 hours . I say this because I had the thermal switch go bad on one . Fill it with hot water to the line per instructions. Using the timer will keep pot cleaner as the thermal switch will not activate the shutoff when the water is all boiled out. Also I bought Kleenwise distiller cleaner & descaler. I got it online for a cheaper price than the cleaner: that comes with the unit . I would also remove the silicone ring from the top unit and clean it gently and around rim before replacing the ring. Cleaning of it depends on how often you use it. If the top unit pulls off real easy it is not making a good seal. You don't force the top unit on it , just sits on easily. ... This is the third megahome distiller, I have purchased. The motor went bad on my 1st distiller and bought this 3rd one as got a good deal on it. Since then I have purchased a replacement motor for the first unit and it is working fine. I use mine quite often as I drink distilled water , use it for cleaning out my nose sinus, and put it in my bedtime humidifier. I myself cleaned the motor and fan as it gets dirty from dust and oiled the motor end bearings. I really like the distiller as it removes the rust from my hard water. I would recommend the distiller and as far as how often you do the extra cleaning , I do , depends on your use age. All three of my units are currently working.

A good item, but with a few shortcomings, DISTILLED WATER REQUIRES REMINERALIZING. This distiller's interior is stainless steel which leeches aluminum especially when heated, and the pitcher lid is loose fitting so that it leaks when poured. Overall, I'm grateful for this distiller, shortcomings an all. Some type of crockery such as that found in some slow cookers could be substituted for metal interior. It does the job - slowly
I am pleased enough with the tabletop distiller. Since I wasn't willing to pay a bunch for my first machine I have a discount machine that does the job that I bought it to do - just a bit slower than if I were willing to pay for it. It is as compact as it can be. It takes a bit of space on a counter. It puts out heat. That's to be expected. We close it into the spare bedroom with an open window and a closed AC vent. I think it will be nice to have out in the wintertime. I end up carrying the machine back and forth to clean and re-fill it each time and then the water jug to empty and replace it under the spout for the next round. It would be more convenient if I could have it on the counter-top but I don't want the heat in the house. It is easy to clean. It will collect a ... I am pleased enough with the tabletop distiller. It will collect a residue in the bottom of each batch that I rinse out each time I re-fill it. It collects a white residue around the sides and bottom of the machine that is heat bonded on and can't be washed or scrubbed off. A bottle of residue cleaner is included with the distiller (you will have to replace it when it is gone). You just put in a Tablespoon every 20 or so days and run the distiller through a cycle. It leaves the sides surprisingly sparkling clean. The only unhappy part is that it takes a full six hours to cycle a pot of water. That means I can make 2 full pots and run another that I finish the next morning. Here is the explanation from the company. "The wattage of water distiller is fixed so it distillation time is fixed. According to U.S. voltage, using Megahome water distiller to distil 4L water is about 5-5.5 hours. If your distillation time is too long, please change a place/wall socket to use your distiller to make distilled water and reconfirm its distillation time." I would recommend it and I would buy it again. If you have the means I would buy a different unit with more-more. I think there is a unit for around $500 that runs a load in around 3 hours. I will probably upgrade at some point. Probably just should have done that in the first place but this is a good place to start for around $200. To each batch I add 1/4 Himalayan salt to add back minerals that are missing from distilled water.

Product is well designed. The water is superb for drinking. I don't use the charcoal filter but might try it. I wanted this for the reason that it eliminates all viruses and bacteria from the water. I work in the medical field, and you don't want to know what is poured down the drain. The reverse osmosis systems cannot eliminate all viruses and bacteria. As for the mineral in the water debate, I want water for a catalyst for digestion; I'll get my minerals from food. This distiller is easy to use and operate. I do heat the water first on the gas stove and pour hot water into the distiller to quicken the process. I can't believe distilled water hurts you. And, people have had their machines for 8 yrs with no problems to health and the machine is still working. *The product arrived quickly and without incident. The Vendor was excellent and notified me of my order and when shipped. Good deal. ******UPDATE as of 5/28/2018: I have found this water to 'settle' my stomach. I have a sensitive stomach and feel slightly nauseous and stomach burning at times from almost anything I eat and especially from city water and the chemicals in it. I use alka-seltzer, tagament, pepto, etc. It just gets to be overload on the stomach. To my amazement, the first few sips of this water took away that nausea feeling. I drink a couple to three glasses of 12oz a day. You will not have to force yourself to drink this water; you will crave it. There is a purity in this water that you recognized after the first sip. I have cut back on the other over the counter medications and figure within a yr or two this will pay for the Megahome distiller. I did not expect the .stomach cure', but what a welcomed relief. I hope it does the same for you. I also do not use the charcoals. The water is heated to 'almost' boil. The water flavor tastes different than what you are used to but so does every municipality water I've tasted. So the flavor is ok to me. I found that boiling the water before adding to the machine does give the water a flavor you may not like. Also, turn the machine off with 2-3 inches of residual water. Do NOT let it distill and automatically shut off or you will have a 'burnt' flavor to the water.

Excellent water distiller!!! You will love it!
My well water tested at 114. After this amazing water distiller did it's magic, the water tested at ZERO. This is so easy to clean. I use an appliance shut-off timer to turn off the machine before it shuts itself off to prevent the bottom of the pot's residue from burning into it. It saves so much more time cleaning it. I sprinkle the citric acid (1/2 tsp) in the bottom, use a wet paper towel and wipe out the inside, then rinse. I do this every other use. If you fill it with hot water it takes less time to boil. Just a hint to save energy. It makes a gallon in 5 hours and 15 minutes. I store my extra water in glass jugs under the counter in the dark. It is not very noisy either.
