  • Power Protection that Does Not Degrade

SurgeX, like ZeroSurge, offers series-mode protection for 120v household devices. The SA-82 has two outlets and can protect devices using up to 8 amps / 960 watts of power consumption. This is more expensive than cheap, typical surge strips, but it only takes one damaged TV or subwoofer damaged while "protected" with them, to lose more value than what you would have spent on these SurgeX filters. Unlike the typical surge strips and uninterruptible power supplies which use parallel mode protection, series mode protection does not use consumable components which degrade with every power spike absorbed until no protection remains. The series mode filters can face hundreds of power spikes without degrading nor letting excessive energy get past them. A second way series mode protection is ...

  • Best surge protection, highest quality components, will likely last forever

The SA-82's provide the patented (expires in 2025) series mode protection of more expensive SurgeX products at the a more reasonable cost. IMO, at list price the SA-82 is too expensive, discounted, or preferable used off eBay, they can't be beat. The SA-82 also provides powerline filtering and overvoltage protection. If you open an SA-82 you will find only the highest quality components. For example: the SA-82 is limited to 8 amps, but the interior wiring is 12ga boat cable, good for 20A. These things will likely last forever.

  • This does what a UPS Fails to do!

Just bought a new desktop computer with lots of peripherals and wanted to protect it electrically. I considered a UPS, then learned about the poor capability of the "surge" protection in a typical <$500 UPS. Inexpensive home/small business UPSs use MOVs to capture big voltage surges and route the power to the electrical ground. MOVs degrade with repeated surges. Perhaps worse, they instantly route the surge to the ground line. That means it will leak into other non-protected equipment on the same ground line. SurgeX does not degrade with repeated surges. SurgeX clamps surges at a much lower voltage level than MOV-based surge proctored, thus further protecting your sensitive electronics. Last, SurgeX absorbs large surges into a capacitor bank, then slowly leaks the excess power back ...
