About this product

Product Information

Developer Rocksteady Studios returns players to its dark vision of Gotham, where the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane has been replaced with a walled-off expanse of city streets and abandoned buildings, ruled only by deadly mad anarchy. From a familiar third-person perspective, players resume the single-player role of Batman, for missions of infiltration, assault, recovery, and rescue. Gruesomely outnumbered, the hero's survival still relies largely on stealthy ninja tactics, although open environments occasionally call for cape-aided hang-gliding or grappling-hook acrobatics.

Although the territory of the new Arkham City is nearly five times larger than the old asylum grounds, Batman's path is sometimes limited by outbursts of gang warfare, usually best avoided. The game also regularly presents puzzles for the Dark Knight to solve, in the gadget-enhanced "Detective Mode." The combat system has been refined, allowing Batman to counter attacks from multiple opponents at once, and to access his gadgets in the middle of a fight.

Set only a year after the events of Arkham Asylum, the game's story begins with Quincy Sharp, the former warden who is now mayor of Gotham City. His plan -- to shut down the asylum, move the inmates to a walled in section of city slums, and hire private security to guard the new borders -- has created a zone of pure lawlessness in the heart of Gotham. It is a city within a city, where inmates are free to roam the streets, stealing and killing as they wish, so long as they do not attempt to escape.

Control of this urban wasteland is now contested by two rival gangs: one led by the Joker, with the help of Harley Quinn, and the other by Two Face, who has called for the public execution of Catwoman -- much to the delight of the other bloodthirsty residents. Side-stories involve more of Arkham's most famously devious and demented recidivists, including Mr. Freeze, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler. Kevin Conroy again voices Batman, with Mark Hamill as the Joker.

  • Great graphics. Women stereotyped. Too violent.

My son is obsessed with this game. Though Batman is clearly heroic, he is nevertheless ruthless. He may not shoot with a gun, but landing hard on a villian's throat with your knee seems pretty darn close. I know that would kill me. Our kids are riveted by these images. I want him to be happy, but at the same time I don't want him getting too influenced by these games; this is the only game like this he has. Our kids should be forced into doing chores and playing outside, no matter what kind of fight they put up. We bought him a trampoline on EBay; pricey, yes. But, in the end, well worth it.

  • Good game but overrated

I think the graphics are great but I still think the reviews are overrated. If you enjoy scripted games then maybe you will love it. I like multiplayer games where real people dictate how the game will go and make it much more enjoyable. Another thing is you have to figure out what the developer wants you to do before you can move on in the game, thats the only reason the game will take you a while to play because you have to figure everything out. But it does have some cool gadgets and stuff in the game, just not realistic fighting. very easy for batman to win all the street fights. The install process when you get game from buying a Samsung product will make you hate the game from the start. I almost couldnt get the game to download and install correctly and Samsung and game designer ...

  • A stellar superhero game that raises the bar for its peers!

2009 was one of the best release years in video game history. But one game in particular took everyone by surprise – Batman: Arkham Asylum. It shattered the stereotype that all comic book-themed games are lackluster and went on to become the greatest comic video game ever. This week’s sequel had a lot to live up to, and it definitely rose to the occasion. In fact, this sequel is so good, I think it will dethrone the original as “the greatest comic book video game ever.” The game is just so well made, from graphics and gameplay to story and features, it’s highly polished and an easy contender for Game of the Year. When you’re not taking on ten dudes at once like a one-man army, you’re using awesome gadgets and stealth tactics to solve the current problem. The game makes you appreciate the ...

  • Wildly entertaining, somthing for everyone!!!! Buy NOW!!!!

Spectacular graphics and effects. Gameplay progresses and forces you to learn new moves, combos, and new ways to approach situations. I have played 18 hours so far and Im only 38% done. Soo many side missions and you can literally roam the streets beating up thugs forever. The story cutscenes and sequences are very cool, all the classic Batman characters, this game came under the radar for me... but wow, very impressed. At release DX11 mode was buggy and low framerate, however there is patch available now and DX11 is working much better.

  • Actually "better" than Batman Arkham Asylum

I actually own and have played Batman Arkham Asylum also. This game is extremely good. Graphics, gameplay, sound, and even the "voice acting" is top notch. I would recommend this game to any serious game collector, or gamer. This seems to be close to twice as large as the first Batman. I hope they move on to other comic book heroes for other gaming titles also. Pulls you into the story, and makes you wish it just wouldn't end. Sort of like a really good book.
