    Great replacement

My tripod got loose and tip off my Tamron 150-600 cause it fell off and made the front the ring filter cracked. This is a perfect replacement for my lens.

  • A strong "do it all" lens.

If you want a "do it all" compact lens it is a great buy. I think the main benefit is the fact that it is a relatively inexpensive lens for what it can do. The convenience of not having to switch to a different lens is superb and certainly allow me to get more great photos and for nonchalant, non professional activities it works well for me and the center sharpness of the lens is superb. The down side of the lens is that it has a slow aperture. So if I was photographing sports action I always seem to have to increase the ISO to compensate and I must say that the photos are typically less than stellar. It also lacks vibration reduction so on occasions where you want really good picture quality a tripod is helpful especially if you are want take advantage of the telephoto portion for the ...

  • Tamron 18-220mm for Nikon

The reason I bought this lens is I wanted a lens for those times when it's convenient to carry a single lens and body. After a week of using it I'm very satisfied with the performance. Sharpness is good in the center, but softening a good amount as you get closer to the edges. With most real life subjects the edges are not an issue in my observations. After a little sharpening in Photoshop the images look great. Contrast is good and color fringing(chromatic aberrations) has been minimal. So, overall I'm very pleased with the lens and think it will serve the purpose it was purchased for very well. Stabilization would be nice but for less than half the price I'm happy with this one.

  • Extremely well suited for the Nikon D40

Pros; Excellent camera for covering a wild range Quality shots were taken from around 30 - 100 mm, any longer a tripod is required to bring out a good shot. AF was very quiet all the time. Cons; Slight lens creep if facing down and I cannot stress the need for a tripod for long shots. When zooming I had to re-focus again. Scudder2332

  • This is a great everyday lens for the price, I love it!

So far I have used it for landscapes, kids playing and portraits. There are better lenses out there to do those jobs but not in a single lens, in its price range. My only issue with it is the zoom creep, but for a quarter of the price of the canon lens I can live with the creep To me, the images are crisp and clean but I am not a pro. I love the zoom range 18-250 which works out to be equivalent to about 28 - 400 on my aps-c sensor. The stabilization of the next version ( 18-270 ) would be nice but saving about $350 dollars was worth it. I have and will continue to recommend this lens.
