About this product

Product Information

No home theater is complete without an A/V receiver attached to the surround sound satellites. The Onkyo TX NR609 7.2-channel 240-watt receiver is one to consider. Within this THX certified unit is a large power transformer that contributes to the high-current amplifier design. As the direct mode creates a crisp sound with any musical genre, the Onkyo TX-NR609 model stands out as a receiver that booms and sings. The on-screen display is user-friendly with a graphical user interface that almost anyone will be able to use. The letters and numbers have a glowing, green hue that makes them easy to see in both bright- and low-lit rooms. Below the display is a bank of buttons where you can set up to 40 presets between AM, FM, and Sirius channels. The front panel also boasts HDMI, USB, component video, mic input, and headphone connections for easy attachment.Use this Onkyo TX-NR609 unit to seamlessly connect your audio and visual devices from your iPod and iPhone to your home personal computer. If you have other devices to add to this network, these receivers also have Digital Living Network Alliance, or DLNA, embedded into the densely-packed electronics. Each of the seven channels supports up to 100 watts of power as you turn up the THX Select2 sound. You don't have to be an audio-video genius to set up the speakers with the Onkyo unit because it comes with Audyssey 2EQ technology. This feature calibrates the speaker inputs to the receiver so that the resulting tunes are perfectly harmonious regardless of the musical genre. As a bonus, this unit can even provide support for 3D video. It accepts input from a Blu-ray device. The setup also has Marvell Qdeo video processing that utilizes analog-to-HDMI up-conversion for your incoming images. Thus, you'll have up to 1080p resolution on your television when you connect it through the TX-NR609 unit. With its twin subwoofer pre-outs, you will add extra rumble to your audio quality as it boosts the impact of the bass. Don't worry about connecting this setup to existing satellite speakers either. The rear panel is complete with a mixture of connectors, including banana plugs and wire locks. Each connector is further marked with either a color code or positive/negative sign. Five HDMI connectors are clearly marked, too, which allows you to hook up a variety compatible technology. This power A/V receiver also has a PC-input connector. This feature allows you to hear your saved or streamed music through the attached speakers. A multi-brand remote control is also matched to this unit. As an alternative, you can also download an app onto your handheld device to create an integrated remote. Volume, inputs, and numerous other functions will be at your fingertips as the nearly 7-inch tall housing fits snugly into any shelving area. It weighs about 25 pounds with a 17-inch width. With the Onkyo TX NR609 7.2-channel 240-watt receiver, you’ll be able to enjoy precision audio and video entertainment through the years.

Dividing Network was well protected inside nearly bulletproof packaging. Package showed up in perfect condition several days late after having made a tour of the Midwest. Condition absolutely amazing for the age. Have not tested yet.

    Great with one minor flaw

This receiver is actually amazing overall. I have never owned a network-enabled receiver before and to be able to control it via my phone app is so cool, particularly the subwoofer, volume, and center channel levels which tend to always need adjustment in an apartment living space. I bought this receiver to take full advantage on Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio for the most part. Outside that I'm used to how a Home Theater works. There is though a bug that I do not like, which is the the TV/CD and Cable modes experiences a .5 to whole second audio sync issue. It has to be adjusted to the max of -180ms to be corrected, and that setting must be made each time the input is selected. I haven't found any fixes for this as of yet.

    Onkyo tx nr609

The unit worked for about 3 days and quit having sound, but it does have display lights. I turned off power switch and when i turned back on it played again for a short time, now not working !

  • Great value with high end features

Programmable features are exceptional and easy to navigate with manual provided or on-line. Receiver easily drives my jbl l series speakers in 7.1 configuration with adequate power to 'shake' the walls. Sound is clear in all ranges with no discernible distortion. Pricing very reasonable on EBay for this older unit.

  • Great features once one learns them

This is a full-featured receiver and, as such, is not just plug and play. I have had a reasonable amount of experience with audio equipment, starting back in the Lafayette Electronics era, and I still have not gotten all of the features operational. That is not a complaint about the unit, however, it takes a while to balance everything. The sound is awesome and the capability to have all my components, including my secondary computer, run through one place is most convenient. The only thing I would wish were included is an input for a turntable. I realize that it is not as popular as it once was, but it would be an easy addition to the back panel I would think. Below is the unit with all the components it is currently accessing.

  • Fourth Onkyo in the house

I have ten TVs, six with surrounded no sound in my house. I have Yamaha, Denon, Harmon Lardon and Onkyo receivers. Onkyo are my favourite. So many options and the sound is amazing even without using their Odyssey self set up. Plus the 7.2 means two subs so you feel the bass whether you are listening to Comfortably Numb, watching Saving Private Ryan or The cannons at the end of the 1812 Overture. I hope this review helps.
