Beast! Worth the price? Very likely. Excellence isn't cheap.
Beast! I replaced my 15 year-old incandescent 60 lumen E2D and this has been worth it. Before I sing the praises, the only problem is the longer profile (~1.5 cm), though this doesn't impact the balance in your hand. If you hadn't owned the shorter incandescent, you wouldn't know. (The biggest downside is that the new E2D won't fit in pants with a special flashlight/spare mag, thin Velcro pocket). The construction is solid, the gaskets feel solid and everything feels just perfect. I was unsure how I would like the "2-way" clip (I feared it would be flimsy) but it appears to be working very well thus far for attaching to pants pockets in either head up or head down configuration. Now, onto why you are reading...the light! I like the balance achieved between intense spotlight and broad ... Beast! I replaced my 15 year-old incandescent 60 lumen E2D and this has been worth it. The ability to have a 5 lumen "all purpose light" is fantastic and the 5 lumes seems much brighter than I thought it would be and is perfectly suitable for everyday use. The on/off button features solid construction and works as well as the 15 year old antecedent. While I haven't tested the 1000 lumen output with any scientific gear, I did do side-by-side comparisons of Chinese-made 300 lumen $30 flashlights, as well as a solid American-made replacement LED for my old 6P made by Malkoff (~$50). No question Surefire was #1 in brightness, clarity and uniformity. Malkoff was solid, but not as bright, but head and shoulders above the Chinese-made Pelican. Though pricey, the Surefire is true to its pedigree and is the last flashlight I'll need to buy. Now if only they would make better options for single-AAA LEDs...

You can see the yellow square LED diode, not what I expected from a flashlight at this price point. Have one more than half the price that has better light out put. Very disappointing.

Extremely Honest Review
This is an excellent flashlight. I’m giving it a 4 star review because I’m comparing it to the previous Discontinued 6PX DEFENDER SUREFIRE Flashlight. They both are approximately the same length . The 6PX DEFENDER is thicker and heavier and the striker on the light is sharper . All three of those factors are very important when defending yourself in an attack. If I would of never owned a 6PX Defender, I would give this flashlight a 5 star review all the way. My favorite feature is that I can double click to a dimmer light , which is perfect for low light situation. This flashlight has a good feel and has a built in clip for clipping in your pocket , belt or backpack. Overall an excellent flashlight.This is an excellent flashlight. The price is indeed expensive, but quality is wonderful . I bought former model of SureFire flash light at NC 10 years ago. This old one is still have durability , so I have used old one without any problem. I did not remember old one's price. Maybe old model was expensive as same as this new model. If i say one tiny problem of this SureFire light , this light should be needed that battery is "CR123A". But i think the reason that this flash light is awesome bright is by using "CR123A". Best oldschool Defender
This is the most interesting version of Surefire Defender released in 2015, because of the 16500 candela on maximum 500 lumen output. It was said a lot about lumens and candela ratings, unfortunately modern Defenders feature only 10 000 candela and 1000 lumens, which is a step back. Summary: best Defender version in the Surefire history. Highly recommend this version of Defender.
