About this product

Product Information

Translated in English as "The Golden Cockerel," LE COQ D'OR was written in 1910 and based loosely on Pushkin's famous poem, "The House of the Weathercock." The final opera of esteemed Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, it tells the story of a lazy King and the fate he meets when a magical bird of gold appears to tell him his future. This fine 2002 production was staged at the Theatre Musical de Paris in Chatelet, with a largely Russian cast of soloists including Albert Schagidullin (as King Dodon) and Ilya Levinsky (Prince Guidon). Andrei Breus (Prince Afron), Ilya Bankin (General Polkan), Elena Manistina (Amelfa), Barry Banks (Astrologer), Olga Trifonova (Queen of Shemakha), and Yuri Maria Saenz (The Golden Cockerel) are also among the cast, while the Chorus of St. Petersburg's Marrinsky Theatre provides stellar backing support.
