Product Information

'ROUND MIDNIGHT is the moving story of an expatriate black jazz musician and his struggle to create the bebop sound in 1959 Paris. Dexter Gordon is sensational in the lead role--he earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Dale Turner--and Herbie Hancock, who appears in the film, was nominated for his score. Director Bertrand Tavernier beautifully captures the many joys and sorrows that encompass the jazz world.

Dexter Gordon as Dale Turner; set in late 1950's Paris. The Film won in Cannes but only received nominations in America. The Score from Herbie Hancock did win The Oscar. If You like Jazz this one's a must own. He's in a tail spin at the end of his career and is befriended by a Parisian fan who helps him get it together again to the point where he composes one last masterpiece for The Ages. Cameos by a Who's Who of Jazz Musicians. Don't hesitate - own it.

  • Round Midnight

Watch this film to see Dexter Gordon's oscar-nominated performance. He captures the expatriate experience of Lester Young and Bud Powell. Also, the rendition of the title track is memorable, with two bass players, one of whom is Ron Carter. Finally, enjoy the jazz musicians: Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton and others. You will find this film an unexpected pleasure.
