    At New York's Gramercy Hospital, a homeless man under the care of English doctor Guy Luthan (Hugh Grant) dies in a horrific manner. Soon both the patient and his file mysteriously disappear. The puzzled Luthan is told by a superior to forget about it and move on. Undaunted, Luthan conducts his own investigation--and uncovers a scandal in which homeless people are being used as human guinea pigs in the name of science. The moral Luthan wants to put a stop to this, but doing so may cost him his career--and his life. Adapted from a book by Michael Palmer, the film marches to its conclusion with as much suspense as director Michael Apted's previous thrillers (AGATHA, GORKY PARK, and THUNDERHEART). Grant plays the charming, put-upon Englishman to perfection, while Gene Hackman and Sarah Jessica Parker provide strong supporting roles. An intelligent examination of the contemporary dilemmas in medical ethics, the film concludes with an ending that will challenge viewers' moral beliefs.

      You won't fall asleep in the middle

      Wow, what a movie! I'm an adrenaline junkie but I can't watch this one late in the evening, or I'll be up all night. 😅

      Medical Mystery

      This thriller starts out well enough, with Hugh Grant playing a dedicated E.R. Dr. who has a homeless patient die on him in a horrible way. He is smart and notices that there is a pattern going on, especially when the hospital records of the men vanish. Gene Hackman....love him as the bad guy, is part of the conspiracy. Well, less than half way through the movie you know what is happening and who is involved so it loses a some of it's suspense. Hugh did a terrific job of acting and it is worth watching just to see him.

      A great Mystery/Thriller with great performances

      If anyone likes being on the edge of your seat, enjoying watching a movie involves mystery, then this is one you should see. I watched this for the first time a long time ago & it's still one of my all time favorite thrillers ever. Even the music score by the great Danny Elfman is so great. And very great performances by Hugh Grant & Gene Hackman. I considered this one a must see to all Mystery/Thriller fans out there.
