About this product

Product Information

With PARTY MONSTER, directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE) rework their 1999 shockumentary into a feature film. Based on the book by James St. James, PARTY MONSTER tells the lurid tale of Michael Alig (Macauley Culkin), a self-made party promoter who made a big splash in New York City nightclubs in the 1980s and early '90s. Told in shifting perspectives between Alig and James (an utterly fabulous Seth Green), the film recounts the events that eventually landed Alig in jail for manslaughter. The story begins like so many others: an innocent, fresh-faced Midwesterner arrives in New York City with dreams of superstardom. And after a brief bit of struggling, Michael turns his fantasy into a reality. Soon, the confident youngster is the toast of the town, throwing parties at the infamous Limelight for owner Peter Gatien (Dylan McDermott). But eventually he succumbs to drug abuse and paranoia, which climaxes in the murder of his drug dealer, Angel (Wilson Cruz). Bailey and Barbato recreate this wild moment in history with glee, and they pack their film with enough celebrity firepower (Chloe Sevigny, Natasha Lyonne, Marilyn Manson) to glamorize the story even further.

    Party monster

Funny movie. Actors played their parts very good.

  • A great view for people with an open mind. Gay Drama.

The movie is based of the true story of one Michael Alig played by Macaulay Culkin, the boy from "Home Alone". Seth Green plays his sidekick and "best friend and mentor", "James St. James" and Marilyn Manson makes a few cameo appearances, not as himself but it might as well be. The very sexy Dylan McDermott, from the short lived and loved M-Tv's "My So Called Life', plays "Angel" a drug dealer and a victim at the hands of Alig and his gang as does all of Ali's "friend's in one way or another. It is a decent look at life during a time in New York club scene in the late 80's and early 90's where whacked out fashion, drug's, Madonna and techno music was the rage. The acting is good that is why I rated it average however if you would like a more real look into the life of Alig find the DVD ...

  • Marilyn Manson made me buy it!

There exists a movie database on the internet that is my guideline of choice. Everyday people provide reviews and ratings, not jaded professionals. As usual, I agree with its rating of 5.9 out of 10 on "Party Monster". As the title of this review jokingly implies, it was the presence of Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson) that decided my purchase. Normally I won't buy (and absolutely won't take out a loan for the theatre) unless the website shows it at least close to a 7 out of 10 rating. I don't regret it except that it was a misconception. Marilyn Manson is in it, for about five minutes at most. Mr. Manson's spot on the cast list I saw online is utterly misleading. And he had a cooler, silent 10 seconds (or less) in the eerie and superior "Lost Highway" film by David Lynche. A ...

  • A Monterous Delight

Going in to see Party Monster the first time, I had my doubts. I thought it was going to be another stereotypical gay movie. Boy, was a wrong. Based on the true story of convicted murderer Michael Alig, this movie is very well done with just the right touches of comedy and drama. Mccauly Culkin and Seth Green do wonderful portrayls of Michael Alig and James St. James respectively. But the true, and unexpected, show stealer in this one has got to be Marilyn Manson as "Christina." His whacky personality suits the character just right. I don't want to give too much away but if you're interested in movies involving the glitz, glamour, and danger of the 80's party scene, then this is a must see!

  • Not the greatest but...

I didn't love this movie, but I didn't hate it either. I think it is worth watching, but I wouldn't say it's going to blow you away or anything. Seth Green does a great job in it, some of the other actors left me wanting more (or something else entirely!). The costumes are great!! Lots of glitter, insane platform shoes, inspiring makeup & more. The story is just so muddled & so many characters were changed significantly or left out completely from the true story that it's almost fiction. But it's not, & they use enough of the reals story to make it work.
