"Mississippi John Hurt", what a blues man !
This gentleman made these recordings in 1928 and pretty much disappeared from public view....whether he had no manager or someone to help promote his work I do not know. I've read he was rediscovered over 30 years later and was very popular until he died in i966. He appears to be a kind gentle soul with very little education but someone who was a self taught master of the acoustic guitar. I love his singing but his guitar playing is my favorite. The remastering of this music and transfer to CD is excellent. If you consider he made these recordings 80 years ago thats something else in itself. Avalon Blues
We heard Eve Goldberg perform "Did you hear John Hurt?" and had to try one of his cd's. We're not blues fans BUT this was surprisingly entertaining. The man can put over a song. The songs are sad (DUH!) or evangelical (DUH!) but this album is one of the few blues cd's I want to keep...

Whomever remastered these 1928 recordings did an outstanding job. Very clean sound for the equipment, with enough grit to sound authentic. If you love John Hurt, or blues music - you at least have to give this a listen.
