She craves a job at the Vogue-like Alette, but a position at a financial magazine at the same publishing company may be her ticket in. Despite her painfully low credit rating, Becky starts dishing out advice on saving, while debt collector Derek Smeath (character actor Robert Stanton) is hot on her Louboutin heels. Meanwhile, she is competing for the affections of her charming boss, Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy, THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB), with icy Alette employee Alicia Billington (Leslie Bibb, IRON MAN).A well-heeled hybrid of SEX AND THE CITY and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, SHOPAHOLIC features the talents of Patricia Field, costume designer for those two films. The clothes are almost on an equal footing with the actors here, and each well-chosen piece in Manhattan shop windows or worn by Bloomwood helps contribute to the film's bright mood. A lesser actress might have been lost in all the colors, but Fisher is a formidable comic presence who pulls off Becky's ditzy lines and goofy falls with equal aplomb. Those hoping for a smart discourse on the perils of credit cards and excess spending are certainly watching the wrong film, but SHOPAHOLIC may just be the fashion equivalent of food porn for dieters.

Don't expect any effort on the part of the seller to communicate with you. I struggled with not leaving negative feedback for this purchase but I decided not to since the item did finally actually arrive. Be sure to read the description carefully. Very slow shipping times. Had to open eBay case because seller refused to respond to my emails. If you want something and don't mind waiting a long time and risk a damaged item due to packaging, this seller will be fine. Maybe I'm defining the term "faint praise" by saying that Confessions of a Shopaholic is marginally better than this young year's other chick flicks (Bride Wars, New in Town and He's Just Not That Into You). But it's a treat having world-class charmer Isla Fisher ease us through the film version of Sophie Kinsella's bestseller about — what else? — shopping. Fisher's Rebecca Bloomwood is the perfect fashion junkie for the New Depression. She's Legally Broke. There's even a debt collector on her tail. Those shopaholics from Sex and the City have money to burn. Not Becky. She's got nearly $20,000 in credit-card bills. She so wants to work at Alette, the fashion mag of her dreams, run with an iron hand and an outrageous French accent by Kristin Scott Thomas. But the only job Becky can fake her ... That task fell to three writers who felt no obligation except to shake their sillies out. Look, it's not all bad. Director P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding) knows his way around this kind of farce. So does Fisher, an Aussie with a nifty American accent and a knack for building a frisky romance with Becky's dreamy (and rich) Brit editor (Hugh Dancy, playing it all cute and pensive). Better yet, Fisher makes us believe that Becky can write a successful column about frugality while fighting the urge to shop-shop-shop. Hey, who better? In pushing the proposition that a shopaholic may be the best person to lead her fellow junkies to a safe zone in a squeezed economy, the movie may actually touch a chord. why jerry brickheimer would put his name to this i do not know.i could not wait for this movie to end.it was so boring.it had a couple of laughs in it,but not much.she ends up with dream job and turns it down.gets boy she falls in love with of course,after some intial trouble from other female.pretty predictable.this movie has been done over and over again.just new faces.

I love it, and hope you will, too.
This is not a great movie by any measurable means. If you want an award winning movie, skip this. Its a romantic comedy. I love it and will watch it three times in a single day. You may not like it. My husband didn't care for it, but I absolutely love it.

very cute, funny-book is more detailed, but overall the film gets it-Isla Fisher very entertaining. Other actors work well with the story-if you like rom-com you will enjoy this one.
