Hendrix Axis:Bold as Love MCA CD pressing
Axis:Bold as Love is one of the holy trinity of Hendrix albums, along with Are You Experienced and Electric Ladyland. Of course there are plenty of other great recordings also. But the wide range of guitar tones from clean to distorted, great songs like Little Wing and Spanish Castle Magic along with tremendous drumming from Mitch Mitchell and cool experimental sound effects like phasing and UFO blastoffs make this a record where Hendrix's art really grew into full flower.No shortage of great guitarwork of course. I can't claim to have A/Bed this version with previous Reprise CDs or the later Experience Hendrix Universal release or the vinyl of which I have several copies. Suffice it to say it does sound great. Perhaps these somewhat rare remasters somewhat makeup for producer Douglas' ... A Hendrix Classic
Listening to this CD today one is reminded that they didn't have the technological advances back in the 60's that they have in ANY studio you go to today...and yet Hendrix sounded like he did! the opening is pretty funny but is quickly followed by Up From the Skies which is simply Hendrix playing jazz...and that my friends is incredible. Imagine what he would have sounded like in the fusion 70's had he lived longer! Classics like Spanish Castle Magic and Castles Made of Sand are what make this CD a must.
