DRILLBIT TAYLOR tells the story of three nerdy adolescents who, on their very first day of high school, find themselves the target of a merciless, near psychotic bully. The friends band together and pool their funds to hire a personal bodyguard, Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson). Taylor, a homeless beach bum and AWOL army soldier, plans to con the kids just long enough to pull together the money needed to amscray off to Canada. A momentary flash of a conscience and a growing crush on a teacher at the boys' high school, however, compels Drillbit to stick around, do the right thing, and ultimately save the day. The movie is fluff to the extreme, and because it's from the duo of Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow it's easy to long for more. There's a remarkably talented comic cast here, though, that includes, among others, Upright Citizens Brigade veteran Matt Walsh, former Daily Show correspondent Beth Littleford, and indie favorite Frank Whaley. And while it never reaches the near poetic heights of vulgarity to be found in SUPERBAD and KNOCKED UP, one can sense Rogen and Apatow's supreme wit poking around the edges of the film. Where DRILLBIT does succeed, however, is as a fun movie for pre- and early-adolescent boys. KNOCKED UP and 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN deal with some adult subject matter, meaning the plots are driven by issues that 13-year-olds most likely can not relate to, and SUPERBAD is raunchy to the point where parents might not want their kids to see it until they can at least drive. DRILLBIT, on the other hand, strikes a nice middle ground, as it deals with the age-old problem of the high school bully and throws in just enough raunch & roll to keep the sleepover rowdy until dawn.

Drillbit Taylor - A good movie, but have been better
Owen Wilson stars in this off beat comedy about a homeless man who is hired to defend three freshmen high school students. The movie starts off with the three students being bullied by two seniors, they get fed up with the bullying and decide to hire Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson) to defend them. From there they movie is a series of gags and one liners that leads to the final battle between the kids, Wilson and the bullies. Unfortunately the movie was not as funny as I expected and the director missed a lot of opportunities to make me laugh. Wilson is a fine actor and I believe he should have skipped this movie. I rate this move a 3 out of 5 only because it did entertain me, however I would not recommend anyone buy the movie, rent it so you can take it back when your done with it. I ... Funny film with appealing stars & great message
The description of this movie sounds silly; I had no interest in watching yet another teen comedy with inappropriate language & sexuality --- but wait! I finally watched it, and I can't believe I'm giving it five stars! The three main characters, nerds who are starting their freshman year of high school and get targeted by a senior bully, actually LOOK like high school freshmen, not grown men. They are well-rounded characters, not stereotypes of nerds, and we get to see enough of their home lives to understand why they lack self-confidence. Yes, they cuss...and if you believe your high school son has never heard or said any cusswords, he probably just doesn't say them around you! The cussing is not excessive. Furthermore, these freshman boys DO NOT talk about sex or look at pornography; ... This leads him to take the bodyguard job with no intention of fighting anyone. He and the boys try alternate methods of discouraging the bully, which are sometimes successful. But in the end, the boys and Drillbit have to fight. Though a comedy, this film presents a very realistic view of high school, and life in general: violence is not the ideal answer, and sometimes it's best to reason with an adversary or simply run away. But sometimes the situation DOES require you to defend yourself and your friends. My 14-year-old son and I both enjoyed DRILLBIT TAYLOR very much.

Laugh Out loud Must SEE
For those of you who enjoy be entertained by Owen Wilson this is a definate Must see. If you liked Superbad you will love this. Who wouldn't find the humor in merdy high school kids with a body guard and not just any body guard but Owen Wilson. May end up being the Ferris Bueller of the new century!! At least rent it and then you won't want to take it back so you will own it. Thats just this guys opinion.
