Another 5 star Grateful Dead "From The Vault" release
I've reviewed the other two "From The Vault" releases, and gave them both 5 stars. This one also sounds fantastic, great mix, and the mastering is superb. To my ears, this is definitely the clearest sounding of the three Vault releases. This two CD set captures the band in a transitional phase, drummer Mickey Hart left after the previous nights performance (for 3 & 1/2 years). Carrying on as a five piece, they developed a tighter, more straight forward rock sound. This CD documents this period wonderfully, it was recorded at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY on February 19th 1971. They debuted many new songs the night before, and play the first ever "Bird Song", and "Deal" on this recording. I would recommend any of the three "From The Vault" CDs for the serious Grateful Dead fan. ... I've reviewed the other two "From The Vault" releases, and gave them both 5 stars. These moments just scratch the surface, as all the performances are stellar. There is a rare crispness and energy to the Dead's attack here. Glad to finally nail down a copy of 3 From The Vault! I have been eyeing it for years, and have steadily watched it go up in price. I had all but given up on buying one, and just being satisfied with my tapes and cd recordings of this show, when one came up for sale at a buy it immediately price that benefited charity as well! Another bucket list recording acquired!

great set of tunes. This set features a whole lot of favorites being played for the first time. Although the songs became better and better the more they were played, it was nice to hear them in the their rawest form. And OH PIGPEN, these songs where remastered yet he seems to be a bit capitalized on. You can definitely hear him feelin' the music. Its beautiful.
