French post-apocolyptic Delicatessen
Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet(Amelie, City Of Lost Children and co-director Alien Ressurection) does an amazing job with this 1991 futuristic post-apocolyptic French sci/fi comedy. Jean-Claude Dreyfus stars as a cannibal butcher who runs a boarding house full of bizarre characters. After eating his handyman, he hires an ex-circus clown played by Dominique Pinon to replace him in more ways than one. This is my favorite foreign language film. It's beautifully filmed and written and it's very stylish and funny. If you don't mind reading subtitles this is a wonderful movie. I love it, every bit of its FRENCHY weirdness thrills the cinema noir fan!!
Creative, witty, strange, couldn't stop watching. Everything that is FRENCH and NOIR is in this 10 star film. It may not be everyone's cup of tea... but this film is an adventure and love story, an action film and a crime flick. It is an experience not to be missed. It's so far out there it's almost too hard to explain... you just have to watch it. This is the stuff of cult classics. Bizarre and cool, weird and sick, and truly romantic. Watch it. Love it as I do. Watch it at least 5 times... you'll pick up some new thrilling detail each time. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director, never fails to deliver. A great movie stands the test of time, and this once certainly hits all my movie viewing requirements. Good story, great cinematography, ... Creative, witty, strange, couldn't stop watching.
